Mission Statement

The mission of San Francisco Youth Soccer is to support youth soccer and leadership through sport.

About This Cause

SF Youth Soccer (SFYS) is a women-led comprehensive and inclusive soccer-based community organization, benefiting SF youth ages 8-18. We fulfill our mission to support youth soccer and leadership through sport by providing a network of integrated, high quality and low- and no-cost equity programming in addition to (and as a structural scaffold for) San Francisco-based publicly accessible recreational and developmental competitive league play as well as creating opportunities and pathways for growth via participation, mentorship, experience, and professional and leadership development. 2024 marks 25 years of SF Youth Soccer in service to provide low cost, high quality programming, facilitating accessibility to soccer via playing leagues, free school programs, low- and no-cost clinics and youth leadership opportunities for 300+ independent, volunteer-run school-based teams and 20+ local soccer clubs. To provide an alternative to for-profit, pay-to-play private soccer leagues, SFYS has developed creative, adaptive competitions to ensure accessibility and inclusion for all youth in San Francisco: — Players participate as they identify, Financial Aid and Scholarships are available for all. — Adapted league play to increase local recreational and developmental competitive participation and retention: 1/ Varsity league (small-sided competition for high-school age players making it possible for older players to keep playing without expense/commitment of travel soccer), 2/ Grade-based Recreational league (vs. birth year as mandated by US Soccer), which allows teams of classmates to keep playing together, 3/ Age expansion in Competitive Upper House league so that grade-based teams can transition from recreational to competitive play without having to break up teams. SFYS Equity programs support both the playing leagues and the SF soccer community at large and are free and available to all SFYS participants as well as all San Francisco youth. -- SFYS Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is 8-15 members per year, but their workshops, presentations and volunteer work @ FOGGOLAZO! benefit the whole of the San Francisco soccer community and their recommendations are brought to the board, fair play and newsletters so that parents/adults who are part of the league are able to view through the lens of their children via the YAC initiatives. -- SFYS@School (free soccer at SFUSD elementary+middle schools). SFYS @ School serves 300+ students across 6 sites currently. We’d like to expand that to 20 schools and 1000+ students. – SFYS Youth Advisory Council leaders facilitate Workshops and Resources, incl. LGBTQ+ 101 (for USYS), Undocumented & DACA Player Support, and more!
