Mission Statement
The mission of Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco is to promote the fundamental value of public education and pursue the success of every public school by sharing knowledge, bridging communities, and strengthening connections between schools and families. Our vision is that all parents and caregivers are valued and respected as partners and advocates, and families and communities act in solidarity across differences to prioritize equity in schools.
About This Cause
Since 1999, PPS-SF has supported more than 300,000 San Francisco public school children, parents, and families. PPS-SF works with dominant/privileged and global majority families across the socioeconomic spectrum and across all San Francisco zip codes, concentrating efforts in the Mission, Sunset, Bayview/Hunters Point, Excelsior, Richmond, and Visitacion Valley. Our information and programs are available in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin. What We Do EQUITABLE ACCESS to information that families need to make informed decisions about their children, schools, and communities. We provide families with accurate and responsive information to navigate SFUSD, including enrollment workshops and 1:1 support. EQUITABLE ENGAGEMENT enables families to support their students and their schools, and be meaningfully included in decision-making. We facilitate Latinx, Chinese, and African American Parent Clubs to build community, offering culturally relevant programming and helping families engage with their schools. We also host workshops and convene meetings on specific topics such as restorative justice and social emotional learning. BUILDING CAPACITY FOR EQUITY to benefit all San Francisco school communities. We collect public opinion data to inform policy decisions and work in partnership with SFUSD, community organizations, and community leaders to deepen trust and facilitate restorative and courageous approaches to naming bias and supporting allyship.
