Mission Statement

APACC’s mission is to help strengthen Asian Pacific American families living in Visitation Valley by providing linguistically and culturally appropriate programs and services. Our clients are mostly low and moderate income immigrant families with limited or no English proficiency. The goal of our programs are to ensure that our clients receive support in the form of education, resources and referrals needed to adapt and become self-sufficient. Our ultimate goal is for families to thrive and our community to be confident, healthy, strong and safe.

About This Cause

APACC was established in 1999 by a group of Chinese immigrants living in Visitacion Valley to serve the Asian Pacific Islander communities in Visitacion Valley and Little Hollywood. Since then, APACC has grown to serve all ethnicities in these two communities and also began to reach towards communities in the greater San Francisco Area. We have formed a collaboration with various Community Based Organizations in and around Visitacion Valley who stand ready to assist us with community building and organizing. APACC is a 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving the underprivileged Asian Pacific Islander community in Visitacion Valley, a neighborhood located in the Southeastern quadrant of San Francisco. Visitacion Valley consists of mostly monolingual Chinese low and middle-income residents, and its surrounding neighborhoods represent the most underserved Asian Pacific Islander communities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. In the past year, APACC has been successful in expanding our reach to these communities by advertising our services to various media outlets. In addition, we are actively outreaching and engaging with the Asian Pacific Islander population in Bayview, Chinatown and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods. We have conducted extensive outreach in partnership with local service providers and City College of San Francisco. For the past 15 years, APACC has successfully offered basic crime prevention, health care, social and educational programs to residents typically having neither the language skills nor resources to improve their standards of living. According to the API Council report date May 2014, in 2012 there were 38,495 API's living in poverty in San Francisco, making up 35% of the 110,889 San Franciscans living in poverty. The unemployment rate of 11.1% at Visitacion Valley is double the unemployment rate city wide of 5.4%. In the area of overcrowded households, Visitacion Valley is at 13.3% which exceeds the citywide rate by 2.5 times. APACC continues to expand programs implemented in the previous years to assist the underserved population in the Southeast community in San Francisco. A computer literacy class was introduced to our community to close the digital divide and gain computer skills for job readiness. We recruited 10 high school and 10 college students to help us train the community. By offering adult literacy class, APACC will increase their skills and improve their chance of acquiring a better career. This also helped the youths gain the organizational and managerial skills to prepare them for their future.
