Mission Statement

The Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation (JPEF) empowers young people to fight against antisemitism by utilizing the real-life lessons of young Jewish partisans as role models. JPEF brings the partisans' legacy of heroic resistance to millions of students and educators worldwide through innovative educational materials, original films, interactive websites, teacher education, classroom lesson plans, and partnerships with global Holocaust organizations. The Jewish partisans fought against antisemitism 80 years ago, and JPEF continues that fight today.

About This Cause

Founded in 2000, the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation is dedicated to bringing the celebration of the heroic resistance of the Jewish partisans to the world. Already, JPEF has empowered millions of young people to stand up to antisemitism, intolerance, and oppression, using innovative educational materials that highlight the courage and perseverance of the Jewish partisans. As the only organization dedicated solely to teaching the Jewish partisan legacy, nearly every major Holocaust organization in the world relies on JPEF to bring the empowering lessons of the partisans to their students. Most people have never heard of the 20,000-30,000 Jews who fought back against the Nazis as Jewish partisans. These Jews were responsible for blowing up thousands of armored convoys and thwarting the Nazi war machine in countless ways, including rescuing people from the ghettos, procuring food and medicine, tending to wounded soldiers, sabotaging German communications and supply lines, punishing collaborators, sheltering civilians and saving thousands of Jewish lives. Learning about who these partisans were and what they accomplished has the power to transform people's perception of the Jewish experience during the Holocaust. The Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation (JPEF) has produced a comprehensive and thought-provoking curriculum called RESIST, designed to transmit the enduring understandings arising from the stories of the Jewish partisans. With layers of interactivity unprecedented in almost any curriculum, RESIST is intended for 6th – 12th-grade students in formal and informal settings and is implemented in Jewish and secular schools worldwide. In 2024, JPEF introduces its new curriculum, Foundations of Resistance, which consists of four classroom lessons featuring interactive webquests that utilize the extraordinary history of the Jewish partisans of World War II as a lens through which to teach students why they should and how they can resist antisemitism and hate. To accomplish this, the curriculum posits four overarching concepts essential to the fight against antisemitism. They are 1) Understanding the Partisans - Creating a harmonious society (grades 6-9), Choosing Leadership- Creating a good society (grades 10-12), 3) Knowing Antisemitism - Creating an informed society (grades 10-12), and 4) Building Resistance - Creating an enduring society (grades 10-12). The lessons are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives – and utilize response–based assessment tools to evaluate student learning. Students will: • Discover the history of the Jewish partisans of World War II. • Recognize the critical role of empathy in maintaining a healthy society. • Explore ways to cultivate their empathy and increase their empathetic behavior. • Recognize the harm antisemitic conspiracy theories cause to society. • Reframe leadership as a set of activities in which anyone can participate. • Use a leadership compass inspired by the partisans to develop their leadership ability. • Investigate the history of antisemitism using an interactive timeline. • Examine antisemitic tropes and their historical roots. • Dismantle modern-day antisemitic conspiracy theories. • Examine how antisemitism is propagated by systems and institutions in society. • Discover why antisemitism poses a threat to democracy. • Learn to safely, effectively, lawfully, and reasonably resist antisemitism and hate. Foundations of Resistance conforms with the Common Core State Standards for education. Additionally, it responds directly to Strategic Goal 1.1 of the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, “Increase School-Based Education about Antisemitism, Including the Holocaust, and American Jewish Heritage.”
