Mission Statement

CoachArt’s mission is to create a transformative arts and athletics community for families impacted by childhood chronic illness.

About This Cause

Children living with chronic illness may feel isolated because of their condition. Frequent hospital visits often cause them to miss time in school and recreational activities. Families, overwhelmed by the cost and demands of ongoing medical care, often lack the resources to seek out or afford extracurricular activities. CoachArt strives to support these families by offering free recreational lessons that bring a sense of normalcy back into their lives. Our two key program offerings are our (4-week)1:1 lessons, where students work with volunteer coaches individually (both online and in-person), and our (4-week) club lessons, where groups of students connect in a workshop setting (online), led by a Head Coach with assistance from other volunteer coaches. Additionally, in-person one-day group lessons and special holiday events successfully returned to Los Angeles in 2023, including mini golf and rock climbing workshops, our Halloween Spooktacular, and a winter holiday party. CoachArt shares two core beliefs: one, illness shouldn’t rob a child of their childhood, and two, our impact is fueled by inspiration and innovation. These beliefs set our foundation for scalable success. Since 2001, CoachArt has provided accessible, ADA-inclusive programs to over 15,000 youth impacted by chronic illness in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego (launched in 2019), and nationwide (launched in 2021). Our vision is that one day every family impacted by chronic illness will be connected to a community of support and an opportunity to learn and grow together.
