Mission Statement
Our vision is a co-existent future where humans no longer exploit wild animals. We work to ensure that all wild animals, whether living in captivity or in the wild, are treated with compassion and respect and are able to live their lives according to their needs. Born Free USA is a national animal advocacy and wildlife conservation organization. The mission of Born Free USA is to alleviate captive animal suffering, rescue individual animals in need, protect wildlife--including highly endangered species--in their natural habitats, and encourage compassionate conservation globally. As a leading wildlife charity, we oppose the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaign to keep them where they belong – in the wild. We promote Compassionate Conservation to enhance the survival of threatened species in the wild and protect natural habitats while respecting the needs and safeguarding the welfare of individual animals. We seek to have a positive impact on animals in the wild and protect their ecosystems in perpetuity, for their own intrinsic value and for the critical roles they play within the natural world.
About This Cause
Born Free USA's campaigns combat cruel practices such as poaching, wildlife trafficking, the ivory and rhino horn trade, trophy hunting, trapping, the fur industry, wildlife exploitation, culling, and so much more. We fight to protect endangered species by strengthening the Endangered Species Act, securing global protections, and educating the public on ways to coexist with wildlife. We rescue and provide treatment for individual animals. Born Free USA also operates one of the country's largest primate sanctuaries, which is home to hundreds of monkeys. These monkeys have been rescued from private homes, roadside zoos, animal experimentation, and other abusive or neglectful situations. At our sanctuary they receive lifetime care, and the ability to be with their own kind and just be monkeys.
