About This Cause

Founded in 1919, Braille Institute of America is one of the oldest and largest providers of services for people who are blind and those with severe visual impairments, including many who have age- or disease-related sight loss. With its mission to “eliminate barriers to a fulfilling life caused by blindness and severe sight loss,” Braille Institute offers a wide array of programs and services, including child development and youth programs; independent living skills training; low vision consultations; national initiatives to promote braille literacy; and educational, social and recreational classes for adults and seniors. Braille Institute also operates an award-winning library for blind and physically disabled individuals, a braille publishing house, and an information-rich website. It is the most comprehensive blind services organization in the country, providing an environment of hope and encouragement through integrated educational, social and recreational programs. All Braille Institute programs and services are provided free of charge.
