Mission Statement
The mission of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) is to provide convenient and affordable access to a comprehensive range of quality reproductive health care and sexual health information, through patient services, education and advocacy.
About This Cause
The mission of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) is to provide convenient and affordable access to a comprehensive range of quality reproductive health care and sexual health information, through patient services, education and advocacy. PPLA is the second-largest Planned Parenthood affiliate in the country and Los Angeles County's largest community provider of family planning, reproductive health and educational services to low-income women, men and teens. Our 19 health centers are located throughout L.A. County in the communities of: Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, Boyle Heights, Burbank, Canoga Park, East Los Angeles, El Monte, Hollywood, Lakewood, Lawndale, Long Beach, Palmdale, Pomona, Santa Monica, South Los Angeles, Van Nuys, Watts and Whittier. PPLA health services are a point of entry into the health care system for the underserved, and for many of our patients, we provide the only health care they receive. Services include screenings for breast, cervical and testicular cancer; testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs); contraception and education; preconception counseling, pregnancy testing and all options counseling; adoption and prenatal referrals; vasectomy; and pregnancy termination at select centers. Our school and community-based education and outreach programs forge the critical link between underserved populations and our health centers, increasing community awareness of the need for medical care and how to access services. Last fiscal year, PPLA provided comprehensive sex education to more than 36,000 youth and adults, as well as grassroots community outreach to more than 174,500 individuals. PPLA continues to offer comprehensive education programs to women, men and teens annually through our school-based education programs, Peer Advocates, Promotoras Comunitarias and parent and adult education. The third focus of PPLA’s mission works to involve people and impact decision-makers to secure and protect access to a full range of quality reproductive health care services. We work at the local, state and federal level to advocate for medically accurate sexuality education, contraceptive equity, patient safety, and affordable access to reproductive health care for all people. As the leading provider of reproductive health care services and education in our region, PPLA has built a network of strong and successful relationships within public schools districts, private charter schools systems, community groups, government agencies, its large volunteer base and its clients to help foster the sexual and reproductive health and rights of individuals, families, and communities.
