Mission Statement
Our mission is to deliver compassionate, innovative, culturally-competent mental health services to empower individuals and families to overcome barriers and significant life challenges to achieve more fulfilling, resilient, and self-sufficient lives.
About This Cause
From our humble roots in 1975 providing adult mental health counseling on the USC campus, Amanecer has forged a significant presence in Downtown and Central Los Angeles as a premier behavioral health resource for underserved children, families, teens, adults, and older adults. In 1984, Amanecer was granted a contract with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and moved to co-locate with La Clinica Oscar Romero, a partnership that established the agency’s enduring commitment to the Latino immigrant population. In 1995, Amanecer moved to its current location and began also serving children, youth and families. Over the past four decades, Amanecer has established strategic partnerships with dozens of healthcare, advocacy, and social service organizations to provide the Latino community with culturally competent, outcomes-based prevention, intervention, and crisis mental health services. Amanecer is certified as a Trauma-Informed Community by the Trauma-Informed Care National Learning Community, a program of the National Council for Behavioral Health. We are a top-ranked mental health agency in Los Angeles County for successful outcomes with Evidence-Based Practices (EBP). 100% of our therapists and case managers are trained and certified in trauma-informed EBP that are utilized across all agency programs. Our adult Services include crisis intervention, long-term counseling, and case/medication management for highly vulnerable adults (e.g., the chronically mentally ill, home-bound older adults, etc.). We have helped more than 2,700 domestic violence victims and their children become survivors through intensive therapy, case management, advocacy, and access to community, employment, and educational resources. Children and families receive intensive therapy, intervention, and case management services, including trauma-focused therapies for children who have experienced significant trauma, abuse and neglect. Family Preservation and Wraparound programs offer 24/7 intervention and support for foster and at-risk youth and their families, including parenting skills training. One of the basic tenets of Amanecer is to increase ease of access to care; we want to ensure that transportation, home status, employment, cultural norms or other issues do not interfere with or prohibit consideration or continuation of care. We do this by providing services in our offices, in homes, in the community, at other service provider locations and other locations where we have assessed that the quality and confidentiality of the treatment is maintained, including schools, hospitals, acute care centers, courts and more. Please help us provide new beginnings to LA's most vulnerable residents.
