About This Cause

The 100 Black Men of Los Angeles was founded on the precept that we would make a difference in the communities we serve by demonstrating our unconditional support for the enhancement of education for our youth. Among the 100’s many accomplishments is the major sponsorship of the Young Black Scholars Program (“YBS”). As a result of our diligent efforts to improve the quality of education and increase the propensity of African-American high school graduates receiving a higher education, we now have the premiere education and mentoring program in the State of California. This program is called the Young Black Scholars program. Our talent and leadership focus on achieving meaningful gains for the African American community in: - Mentoring - Education - Health & Wellness - Economic Empowerment - Leadership Our Youth Programs: 1. Young Black Scholars (YBS) - A comprehensive college preparatory program for African American and other minority high school students. The program includes more than 30 workshops, programs, seminars, and conferences throughout the academic schoolyear. Since1986, YBS has assisted more than 21,000 students realize their dreams of attending college. 2. Community-Based Mentoring Program - guides youth life experiences, fosters positive self-perception and self-respect, encourages excellence in education, and the pursuit of positive life-long goals. Our program leads to heightened self-esteem for the youth through improved family relations, academic success, social and financial responsibility. 3. Pathways To Success Entrepreneurship Program - a 15-week workshop series teaching the students the elements of starting a business business plan development, finance, marketing, competitive analysis and business pitch. The program culminates with a business pitch competition. 4. Technology Summit - a four-week workshop series to give students a glimpse into the field of Technology, while providing tools that will improve their everyday approach to how they learn. Students learn about various aspects of technology, ranging from systems analysis to database design.
