Mission Statement
Our missions is to preserve the Mexican culture, validate it as one of the cultural expressions of the Latino people in the United States; to create awareness for it through the medium of music and dance; and finally, to explore ways in which it can connect with mainstream American culture. Floricanto does this in several ways: by touring full concert presentations throughout the United States, conducting workshops, lecture demonstrations, educational assemblies and residencies, by providing after-school alternatives through Mexican folk dance for youth in our community.
About This Cause
Founded in 1975 and incorporated in 1979, Danza Floricanto/USA aka Floricanto Dance Theatre is the oldest existing professional Mexican folk dance troupe in Los Angeles and the first Mexican folk dance touring company native to the United States. Under the artistic direction of Gema Sandoval, the forty three year old company presents authentically staged, thoroughly researched and colorfully costumed dances representing the folkloric traditions of Mexico.
