Mission Statement
Over the last 35 years, Youth Emerging Stronger has imprinted its mark as one of the lead organizations in the Hollywood community advocating for homeless Youth. Our mission conveys our ambition: to provide runaway, homeless and foster youth with safety, stability and housing, along with the relationships and resources to thrive now and in the future. Our Youth become homeless for a variety of reasons, ranging from abuse and neglect to systemic barriers and generational poverty to families’ lack of acceptance of the youth’s gender/sexual identity. YES serves an annual average of 350 youth. We serve 2 populations…. 1. Minors: Ages 12 -17 / Average duration in the program is 90 days 2. Transitional Age Youth (TAY): Ages 18 – 24 / Average duration in the program is 12-24 months
About This Cause
We’ve created a Tracking System to assess the immediate needs of each Youth as they are all unique. 1. Educational --- all of our Minors are usually on this track as the goal is to get them back into a scholastic routine until that time they are able to reconnect with a permanent connection; whether that is with the parents, relatives, coach or clergy. Some of our TAY are also on this track as it relates to getting into a community college or 4 year university. 2. Job Development --- A large amount of our TAY are on this track as the goal is to get them onto a career path where they can make a living wage, instead of only working jobs that won’t provide for financial independence. 3. Mental Health Therapy --- we offer robust mental health services to all of our Youth with our case managers and art therapists taking time to provide individual, family and behavioral therapy. There has been a noticeable increase in these services. In some cases, we’ve tripled services. 4. Life Skills Training --- all of our Youth receive training in skills such as goal setting, money management, decision-making and positive relationship building 5. Social and Enrichment Activities --- YES includes all our Youth in culturally diverse and enrichment activities like going to a museum, hiking, sporting events or outdoor activities. 6. Aftercare Services --- we’ve committed 5 years to each of our Youth after they have graduated from the program. The goal is to be actively present during all challenges that may happen after they leave our program (i.e. job loss, crippling family issues, and insecurity in housing) before they get to “crisis mode” so that we can affectively help steer the ship back on course. At our core, we provide housing and facilitate each youth’s development of the types of interpersonal relationships that promote long-term health and well-being in the future. Youth on the Streets Youth connects with YES YES provides comprehensive services Youth is stabilized and permanency and stability is established.
