About This Cause
Shelter Partnership, Inc is a nonprofit organization collaboratively solving homelessness in Los Angeles County through policy analysis, program design, resource development, and advocacy in support of agencies and local government that serve the homeless. The agency is driven by the recognition that the problem of homelessness is a complex social issue that needs to be addressed in two arenas simultaneously. One is the highly specialized and technical arena of housing policy, which requires knowledge of legislation, regulations and accessing public and private funds. The other arena entails creating supportive services that help homeless persons and persons at risk of homelessness make a lasting transition to independence and stability. While hundreds of frontline social service providers work daily to meet the needs of over 60,000 men, women, and children who are homeless each night in Los Angeles County, only one organization exists to serve those frontline agencies and ensure that they are receiving the support they need to realize their missions – Shelter Partnership. In addition to providing technical assistance to governments and non-profit organizations, Shelter Partnership distributes millions of dollars worth of basic needs goods to nonprofits across Los Angeles County through our S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank. Here, we work much like a food pantry, but instead of distributing food, we distribute large donations of items such as clothing, mattresses, paper goods, books, toiletries, toys, and much more to nonprofit organizations working with the homeless or very poor. Since 1989, we have distributed over $270 million worth of goods free of charge to recipient agencies.
