Mission Statement
The CSSSA Foundation is part of a public-private partnership providing access and opportunity to California's diverse teen artists and strengthening the education to career pipeline for the creative industries. For over 35 years, the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) has brought together 500+ CA students for an immersive, 4-week artist's incubator taught by college-level faculty and professional artists. In seven disciplines—animation, dance, film, theater, music, visual arts, and writing—CSSSA builds skills, confidence, and community. Guaranteed financial aid is provided as needed, and continuing programming and scholarships for alumni open pathways to further education and career development.
About This Cause
The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a cutting-edge pre-professional training program for emerging young artists of high school age. Each year, approximately 500 high school students are accepted to CSSSA. For four weeks during the summer, these young artists are immersed in one of seven art forms: animation, creative writing, dance, film, music, theatre, or visual arts. The program encourages students to challenge perceived boundaries and create new, innovative work. The CSSSA Foundation supports CSSSA by raising funds for financial need scholarships, guest artists and other program support from individuals, corporations and foundations, ensuring that every deserving student has the opportunity to experience the transformative and inspiring power of a summer at CSSSA. Held each summer on the campus of the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CSSSA has trained more than 17,000 young artists from all 58 counties in California to date, and empowered students to go on to college and careers in the arts.
