Operating under AHF’s Public Health Division, programs include storefront testing from AHF’s Out of the Closet thrift stores (ongoing since 1997); HIV testing from mobile units (ongoing since 2004); a Wellness Center program providing free, after-hours HIV testing, sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and treatment, and linkage to care (ongoing since 2004); and linkage-to-care services (ongoing since 2008). AHF engages in large-scale condom distribution, provides support groups for PLWH/A, and leads creative media campaigns to promote HIV prevention, treatment and care. To support HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment efforts, for the past eight years AHF has hosted an annual AIDS Walk in Fort Lauderdale. AHF launched its global programs in 2001, and today provides HIV testing, treatment and care to over 380,000 men, women and children in 36 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Haiti, and Eastern Europe. Numerous policy-transforming campaigns spearheaded by AHF and partners over the past 28 years have revolutionized the delivery of cost-effective care and treatment for clients. AHF is devoted to improving HIV care in areas with an identified need for at risk and PLWH/A. AHF targets traditionally underserved populations who rely on public benefits because they live at or near the poverty line and are not eligible for other kinds of insurance. Specific activities have been implemented to reach high-risk populations (people of color, women, MSM, individuals with a history of incarceration, people with mental health and/or substance use issues, people who are homeless or unstably housed, and people with disabilities).
