Mission Statement

The Teddy Bear Program - The Teddy Bear... a universal symbol of love and affection...®, is given to the children to help them through the confusing and often intimidating experience while at court.

About This Cause

Comfort for Court Kids, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) publicly supported charity that provides emotional support for children who attend Juvenile Dependency Court. Brand new teddy bear are given to the children to assist them through their experiences while at court and are permitted to keep them, forever. Currently, fifty-four hundred Bears are delivered to the Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court in Monterey Park approximately every six weeks. The Bears are divided equally among the operating Courtrooms in the Children's Courthouse and in the Alfred J. McCourtney Juvenile Justice Center in Lancaster, California. Shelter Care in both facilities receives an allotment of teddy bears too. The CASA Office at the Courthouse also receives teddy bears; these bears are used by CASA volunteers as needed. Every agency at the Children's Courthouse is given a supply of teddy bears upon request. The Teddy Bear Program has long been recognized as a Community Outreach Program and in the context of Juvenile Dependency Court, the Teddy Bear has been described as a "healing bear."
