Mission Statement
Lake Avenue Community Foundation’s mission is to unleash the potential of at-risk children and youth, providing them with the tools necessary to thrive academically, emotionally, economically and spiritually. Serving without discrimination, more than 250 children and 100 families are directly served annually through the after-school, mentoring, and summer programs.
About This Cause
LACF was founded in 2001 to serve families, children and youth living in some of the most impoverished neighborhoods of Northwest Pasadena. Programs include an after-school program, parenting outreach, mentoring program, summer literacy and drop-out prevention program. Partnering with over 30 local community organizations LACF has become a leading advocate for community transformation and support for at-risk children, youth and their families. Partners include parents, Pasadena Unified School District, Pasadena Police, The Flintridge Center, Armory Center for the Arts, Lake Avenue Church, the Clergy Coalition, ESL classes, Pasadena-area health and human service organizations, community members and volunteers. At the heart of LACF’s programming is their Students and Tutors Achieving Real Success (STARS) program which provides after-school tutoring, drop-out prevention and enrichment programs for Pasadena Unified School District students in 1st-12th grade. At a time when deep budget cuts are negatively impacting urban public schools, STARS provides after-school academic tutoring, enrichment and mentoring support to equip children to stay in school, graduate from high school and pursue further education.
