Mission Statement
Our Mission South Bay Children’s Health Center serves the dental and mental health needs of low-income or at-risk children, teens, and young adults; empowering them to live healthy, productive, and happy lives.
About This Cause
South Bay Children’s Health Center (SBCHC) is dedicated to providing quality mental health and dental services to underserved and at-risk youth and their families. In 1947, SBCHC started as a dental clinic, to meet the most pressing unmet health care needs of low-income children. SBCHC’s Child Guidance Clinic began in 1967, responding to the growing demand for locally-based, affordable mental health services for children and teens. In 2008, SBCHC integrated the South Bay Youth Project, formerly run by the City of Redondo Beach, allowing us to offer a full range of child and youth-focused mental health services. SBCHC has responded to the most urgent health care needs for low-income and underserved children since our inception. By building partnerships with local community organizations serving similar populations of children, we maximize program effectiveness and minimize service duplication. Our success in providing much-needed oral and mental health care has a positive impact on the overall health, well-being, and future success outcomes of the children and families we serve. SBCHC’s programs include: Dental Program – Provides preventative, restorative, and emergency dental care for underserved children, teens, and young adults in a clinic-based dental home and through a community-focused Virtual Dental Home. SBCHC also offers screenings to detect untreated dental decay, in collaboration with local schools and other community-based organizations. Mental Health Program, Child Guidance Clinic – Provides child and adolescent, clinic-based, and in-home psychotherapy grounded in evidence-based best practices to maximize positive treatment outcomes. Mental Health Program, South Bay Youth Project – Provides school and community-based crisis intervention and stabilization, mental health assessment and treatment planning, counseling, mental health consultation for parents and staff, case management and linkage, and referrals to other needed resources.
