About This Cause

Queen's North Hawaii Community Hospital (NHCH) is a non-profit community hospital that serves more than 30,000 residents and visitors in North Hawaii. NHCH opened in May 1996 after decades of dreaming and nearly ten years of planning. Its mission is to improve the health and wellness of the people of North Hawaii. Its vision emerged from the desire to be “not just another hospital” but rather the most healing hospital in the world. In January 2014, NHCH became part of The Queen’s Health Systems, a not-for-profit corporation established in 1985 to bring expanded healthcare capabilities to the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. The Queen’s Health Systems mission is to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality healthcare services to improve the wellbeing of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawaii. Mission The Mission of NHCH is to improve the health status of the people of North Hawaii by improving access to care and providing high quality services at a reasonable cost. Vision Our vision is to treat the whole individual - mind, body and spirit - through a team approach to patient-centered care, and ultimately to become the most healing hospital in the world. NHCH: At A Glance Opened: 1996 35 bed hospital 24-Hour Emergency Services 354 Hospital Employees 69 Volunteers Location: Kamuela (Waimea), Hawaii Island Waimea is the largest town in the interior of the Big Island and is the center for ranching activities and paniolo culture. Parker Ranch, in and around Waimea, is the largest privately-owned cattle ranch in the U.S., and the annual Fourth of July rodeo is a major event. Waimea is also home to the headquarters of two astronomical observatories located on Mauna Kea, the Keck Observatory and the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope.
