Mission Statement
Unity Harbour, a nonprofit organization, stands resolute in its mission to provide unwavering support and transformative opportunities for individuals adversely affected by dystopian laws. Our initial focus encompasses those impacted by anti-LGBTQIA legislation, abortion regulations, and homelessness. Rooted in compassion and the belief in the potential for positive change, our commitment extends beyond immediate challenges. Recognizing the intersecting impact of systemic racism, our commitment extends beyond immediate challenges to include support for marginalized communities of those that are not white. As a first step, we aspire to create a refuge center — an approximate 8-room facility that includes a daycare. This space will offer a safe free or reduced cost home and a nurturing environment, prioritizing the well-being of vulnerable children, pregnant individuals, and those hurt by these laws. Through dynamic partnerships with work-from-home staffing agencies, the creation of remote employment opportunities, and the provision of on-site daycare services at a sliding scale rate, Unity Harbour aims to build a self-sustaining model, uplifting thousands of displaced individuals and contributing to the economic growth of communities in need. Recognizing the critical importance of healthcare, Unity Harbour is committed to connecting individuals with Oregon's state insurance programs and soon to be established healthcare partnerships. Our dedicated team will assist in navigating the process, identifying established resources, and supporting individuals as they obtain the healthcare services they need. Our vision for the future includes growth and expansion to meet evolving needs. With the support of our community, we aspire to develop extended facilities, potentially incorporating schools or larger establishments, to provide comprehensive support and educational opportunities. Unity Harbour remains dedicated to creating a more compassionate, inclusive, and resilient society. Together, we embark on a journey to address immediate challenges and build a future where everyone, including the most vulnerable, can thrive with dignity and hope.
About This Cause
Unity Harbour, established in Oregon, a state where the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) ensures access to gender-affirming care, reproductive rights, and support for disabled individuals, serves as a beacon of hope. This transitional shelter will be a sanctuary for those fleeing oppressive laws and environments. Residents benefit from inclusive and supportive resources such as childcare and internet access, enabling them to reclaim agency and pursue opportunities even during challenging times. Community Hub: Unity Harbour serves as a vibrant community hub, akin to a bustling town square where individuals gather to access a variety of essential services and resources. Just as a town square provides a centralized location for social interaction, commerce, and cultural exchange, Unity Harbour offers a centralized space for individuals to access healthcare, employment assistance, childcare, and other support services while fostering a sense of belonging and community.
