Mission Statement
Hope Has No Borders is committed to providing humanitarian relief and community support for individuals as they transition from crisis to HOPE. Specifically, our programs address the urgent humanitarian crisis faced by asylum seekers arriving in the Denver metro area, who often flee violence and persecution without stable housing, legal support, or resources for community integration. These individuals face challenges such as a lack of stable housing, difficulty navigating the complex asylum application process, barriers to cultural acclimation and employment readiness, and lack of access to work authorization, which exacerbates their urgent financial needs for essentials like shelter, food, medical care, and transportation. Our work provides a comprehensive support system designed to foster stability, community belonging, and long-term self-sufficiency.
About This Cause
***Pathways to HOPE Sessions*** Pro Se Asylum & EAD Support Hope Has No Borders provides monthly defensive asylum support sessions throughout Metro Denver. While we do not offer legal advice, we assist individuals in completing their pro se asylum applications using technology for translation and form completion. Spanish-speaking volunteers are available to support participants through the process. We believe no one should be denied the opportunity to file for asylum due to the cost of hired legal aid. At our sessions, we merely request a $25 fee per application to offset our costs for printing and postage. We ensure that applications are correctly mailed to all locations and provide follow-up support, including guidance on address updates & information on future work authorization requests. Additionally, private, bilingual EAD support sessions are offered when, after 150 days, applicants become eligible for work authorization. ***HOPE Host Home Program*** Community Transitional Housing The HOPE Host Home program connects compassionate community members who have extra space with migrant individuals or families in need of transitional housing for 90 days. Providing hosts with a stipend for financial support & dedicated case management for guests, the program ensures a safe and supportive environment for asylum seekers as they navigate life in America. Cultivating cultural connections, providing wrap-around services and resource navigation, this program facilitates integration and belonging for new migrants in a transformative journey toward fulfilling the American dream. ***HOPE Community Services*** Community Service Partnerships Hope Has No Borders is dedicated to empowering newly arrived migrants in Colorado through community service projects. This program not only provides donation-based gifts as a token of appreciation for volunteerism, but also offers valuable real-life experience, education around cultural expectations, and enhances resumes and work readiness. By fostering local partnerships, we connect migrants with renowned organizations, like Weecycle and The Jeffco Action Center, who are seeking volunteers, facilitating their integration and contribution to a stronger, more vibrant community for all. ***Crisis to HOPE Fund*** Emergency Stabilization & Support Hope Has No Borders established the Crisis to HOPE Fund (CHF) to offer one-time, urgent financial assistance to individuals facing critical needs beyond the scope of other support systems. The CHF provides immediate, flexible support for essential areas such as work, shelter, medical care, legal assistance, and transportation, ensuring stability during emergencies. Along with each financial award, up to 6 hours of dedicated case management is provided in additional support and resource navigation. Modeled after successful grassroots initiatives, the CHF delivers responsive and preventative assistance, offering hope and practical aid in times of crisis. By addressing urgent financial challenges with targeted, one-time grants, the fund helps individuals regain stability and avoid ongoing dependency on emergency support. Program Impact Example: Our interconnected programs work seamlessly to support asylum seekers through each stage of their journey. For example, imagine a family living on the street who reaches out through 211 for help. They are matched with a host through our 90-day Host Home program, providing them a safe, stable environment in which they can plan their next steps. During this time, they are also signed up for our next Asylum Support Session, beginning their path toward legal status and work authorization. In addition to immediate shelter, they receive resources like food, transportation assistance, and connections to medical care and local services. By the end of their stay, they’ve saved enough to secure an apartment of their own, and the relationship we’ve built allows us to continue supporting them. A few months later, this family encounters an unexpected medical bill that jeopardizes their ability to make rent. Our Crisis to HOPE Fund helps bridge this gap, covering part of the expense to ensure they remain housed. After this assistance, we enroll them in our Community Service Partnership program, enabling them to give back to the community while stabilizing financially. They volunteer for up to five shifts, receiving a financial thank-you after each, which helps them make ends meet and provides them with a local reference for their resume. Finally, when their 150 days asylum clock is complete we meet with them to help each family member apply for their work authorization, a vital step to achieving integration, independence, and stability as an asylum seeker in America.
