Mission Statement
Friends of Kinder Velt USA Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to helping children heal from the psychological trauma of war. Our mission is to ensure that Ukrainian children impacted by conflict receive the emotional support and trauma-informed care they need to recover, grow, and thrive. We support and collaborate with the Ukrainian-founded Kinder Velt organization, and similar charities which provide free therapy programs, psychological services, and emotional aid to children and families across Ukraine and neighboring regions. With a special focus on those displaced by war, our work centers around removing barriers to care — ensuring that no child is left alone in their pain. Our initiatives include: Funding trauma-informed therapy sessions and group programs led by licensed professionals trained in war-related PTSD Supporting the production and distribution of therapeutic toys, including Hibuki therapy dogs and Rafa Giraffe plushies, used to help children express emotions and feel safe Opening and sustaining Kinder Velt centers that serve as safe, nurturing environments for therapy and resilience-building Organizing awareness and fundraising campaigns to bring global attention to the silent crisis of childhood trauma in conflict zones We believe that healing from war is not only about safety and shelter — it’s about emotional recovery. Our programs empower children to rebuild their sense of security, connect with caregivers, and move forward with hope. Every donation supports free access to care, emotional tools for recovery, and a growing network of professionals committed to trauma-informed healing. About This Cause
Friends of Kinder Velt USA Inc. is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2024 to support children suffering from the psychological consequences of war — especially those affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. We partner closely with the Ukrainian-born initiative Kinder Velt (“Children’s World”) to provide free trauma-informed therapy, emotional recovery tools, and compassionate support for children impacted by war, displacement, and loss. We believe that no child should be left alone with the trauma of war. While the world responds to urgent needs like food, shelter, and medicine, a child’s psychological healing is often overlooked. Our mission is to change that — one child at a time. What We Do Friends of Kinder Velt USA Inc. raises funds and awareness to: Provide Free Trauma Therapy: We support Kinder Velt centers throughout Ukraine, where licensed therapists offer trauma-informed psychological services to children affected by war. These services are always free of charge to families. Distribute Therapeutic Toys: We help produce and distribute emotional support tools like Hibuki therapy dogs and Rafa Giraffe plush toys, which are scientifically designed to comfort children and aid in emotional recovery. Support Safe Healing Spaces: We contribute to the establishment and operation of Kinder Velt centers that serve as trusted, stable environments for healing through therapy, group work, and emotional expression. Train and Equip Specialists: We support programs that train therapists, teachers, and caregivers in trauma-informed practices tailored to children experiencing war-related PTSD. Run Global Awareness Campaigns: We educate the public about the invisible wounds of war, sharing stories, reports, and research to increase understanding and support for children’s mental health. Why This Matters The psychological toll of war on children is staggering. In Ukraine alone, millions of children have been displaced, seen their homes destroyed, or lost parents and loved ones. Many exhibit symptoms of PTSD: anxiety, emotional withdrawal, nightmares, speech delays, and behavioral challenges. Without intervention, this trauma can shape a lifetime. Healing starts with connection. With toys that offer comfort. With a professional who knows how to listen. With a parent who feels supported. With a space where it’s okay to cry — and safe enough to begin again. That’s what Friends of Kinder Velt USA makes possible. Our Unique Approach Evidence-Based: All therapy methods and toys used are rooted in child psychology and trauma research. Free for Families: No child pays for therapy, toys, or services — all are funded by donors like you. Locally Embedded: Our partner teams on the ground in Ukraine understand cultural and emotional contexts and adapt care accordingly. Emotionally Intelligent: We don't just address the symptoms of trauma; we work to rebuild a child's sense of self, trust, and hope. Where We Work Kinder Velt centers and services currently operate in multiple cities in Ukraine, including Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kropyvnytskyj, with hopes to expand to others in the future. We are helping expand outreach to areas where refugee children are most vulnerable, including Moldova, Poland, Romania, and other neighboring countries. In 2025, we are actively fundraising to: Expand therapy access in underserved regions Launch mobile healing units for rural and displaced populations Produce 500+ Rafa Giraffe toys for free distribution Support training of new trauma specialists and volunteers Your Role Friends of Kinder Velt USA is powered by everyday people, donors, volunteers, parents, and professionals, who care about children’s emotional wellbeing. Every dollar donated helps a child receive support they would otherwise go without. We are a small but mighty organization with virtually no overhead and high-impact programming.
