Mission Statement

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is an event that began in 2003 as the Breast Cancer 3-Day®. Thousands of women and men come together, each raising money for Susan G. Komen®. Then they take their commitment to end breast cancer one step further and walk 60 miles over the course of three days. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Komen 3-Day help support Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.

About This Cause

In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, Komen has funded more than $889 million in research and provided $1.95 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and psychosocial support programs serving millions of people in more than 30 countries worldwide. And we won’t stop until our promise is fulfilled. - See more at: http://www.the3day.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_komen#sthash.mhSyfKVa.dpuf
