Mission Statement

The mission of the Animal Care and Control Department is to work together to serve the animals and people of Maricopa County.

About This Cause

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) is the only open admission animal shelter in a community of 4.5 million people. Although we are the second largest shelter in the country, we are able to return home, or re-home over 95% of the animals in our care. We pride ourselves on excellent service to the animals and the people who love them. MCACC provides spay/neuter services, licensing, medical care, vaccinations and microchips for each of the roughly 47* animals that arrive in the shelter daily. MCACC has extensive foster, alternative placement, and volunteer programs as well as a behavior/enrichment program. Throughout the year, MCACC supports community outreach programs, runs numerous adoption events and more, thanks to its partnership with over 90 local and national rescue organizations. Our organization is solely dependent on revenues earned through our services, such as, pet licensing, kennel permit sales, and field enforcement; grant funding and donations. Our staff is made up of 150 paid employees and several hundred volunteers. Our stakeholders and partners within our community have helped us achieve our current success. *2020 intakes are down as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
