Mission Statement
St. Benedict’s Prep prepares boys and girls in and around Newark to fulfill their potential as emotionally mature, morally responsible and well-educated citizens. Operated by the Benedictine monks of Newark Abbey since 1868, St. Benedict’s offers a rigorous curriculum that sharpens the mind, shapes the character and nourishes the spirit.
About This Cause
St. Benedict’s fosters a nurturing but challenging learning environment. We know what boys need to find success in and out of the classroom: a strong dose of tough-love mixed with unwavering support. We believe that students will step up when adults step back. Benedict’s students are given tremendous responsibility and a significant opportunity to serve as leaders in all aspects of school life – from facilitating school-wide meetings to running peer support groups. It’s not easy. In fact, it takes a lot of hard work. But we believe in each and every one of our students. The School is a national example of how to revitalize education in urban, suburban and rural areas. Locatedon the beautiful 12-acre monastery property of The Benedictine Abbey of Newark for more than 154 years, the School serves and educates multi-ethnic kids from all socioeconomic and faith backgrounds. Our success stems from helping our students discover and raise their voice, and placing trust and responsibility that is earned into their hands. Our students take ownership of their education, their community and their future. The four core pillars of Community, Student Leadership, Counseling and Experiential Education have defined and distinguished a St. Benedict’s Preparatory School education for decades. These pillars are deeply ingrained into the life of the School, ground us, and provide the foundation for students to grow into loving, capable and resilient young people.
