About This Cause
The major issues and needs Catholic Charities of Steuben works to address through our programs include: • To provide those living in poverty with ways to improve their lives offering services along a continuum of care from crisis, to support, to development of self-sufficiencies. • To assist those who suffer from substance abuse in finding support/education/resources to aid in their recovery. • To guide youth involved in risky behavior to develop support systems/decision-making skills. • To offer children of working parents nurture from caring staff in a safe, affordable, quality day care setting with a focus on school readiness. • To provide guidance, instruction, and support to families in crisis through structured weekly home visitation. • To support and educate new and expectant parents about raising healthy children and child development through home visitation. • To nurture hard-to-place children and youth within the foster care system to enable them to transition back to home, school, and community. • To educate parishes and communities regarding social issues, and motivate them to take action. The geographic area our programs serve falls within Steuben County, New York. The population we work with varies from program to program. Our anti-poverty programs focus upon households with incomes at or below 200% of poverty. Many of the other programs focus upon the general population with specific areas of need including alcohol and substance abuse issues, childcare needs, and/or parenting education needs for example. We do not discriminate based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, or language.
