About This Cause

Bonita Springs Charter School opened in 2002 and is located on Old 41 in the Bernwood Business Park in Bonita Springs, Florida. Our school is made up of two buildings: one for grades K-5 and a separate building for middle school, grades 6-8. The entire school is fenced in with a security gate and a separate secure walkway that leads to the main entrance. It has two playground areas, one for primary students and one for upper elementary students. In addition to the traditional classrooms the school has a Media Center, Zoomnasium (Multi-purpose room), Art, Music, STEM-Lab, Cambridge and Gifted and Talented, Science and a Sensory room. We offer Cambridge, gifted and advanced high school coursework as well as we strive to meet the remedial needs for our scholars. We participate in multiple competitive academic teams and provide STEM lab interactive opportunities school wide. Cambridge Advance Program of Studies: Students learn to work collaboratively, think critically, and engage actively in academic discussions. With the Cambridge program, students are exposed to project-based learning and working through higher-order questioning and real-life global applications. We are providing our students with a life-long skill set to prepare them for the ever-changing society and vast career opportunities. STEM Program: STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications. High School Credit Courses Available: We offer for those eligible students Spanish 1, Biology Algebra 1 and Geometry. Technology : All of our students have 1:1 Apple iPads as well as we have a campus MAC Lab. SCHOOL CULTURE At Bonita Springs Charter School our students come from over 56 different diverse global backgrounds. We aim to develop stronger social/emotional skills and learning through observation, experience, and direct guidance. We are a Blue Zones Project Approved School and Worksite where we encourage better eating habits, implement and educate about tobacco-free policies, and increase physical activity to help our students and parents form healthy habits for life. We are proud to claim that we have happy, healthy students that are anchored in feeling safe, secure and successful. By encouraging better eating habits, implementing tobacco-free policies, and increasing physical activity, our school uses the Blue Zones Project to help students and parents form healthy habits for life. Many of us spend the majority of our day at work, so having healthy choices at our workplace is key. Blue Zones Project offers solutions for worksites to inspire employees to be happier and more productive at work and at home. A healthier employee costs less, too. When workers feel better and more connected to their colleagues, they miss less work, make great contributions, and have lower healthcare costs. SAFETY AND SECURITY Safety and security is of paramount importance to Bonita Springs Charter School. As part of our commitment to being a premier educational community, it is our priority to provide a safe and secure learning environment. In addition to our Lee County Sheriff School Resource Officer that is on campus full-time, we also have a Gator Guardian program everyday which is compose of our students’ fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or adult brothers volunteer to be on campus for the day, securing entrances, monitoring hallways, support with drop off/ pick up traffic and parking lot safety. STUDENT LEADERSHIP At Bonita Springs Charter School we are a proud Leader in Me Lighthouse School with evidence that we produce outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the process with fidelity and excellence. We have an extraordinary impact on our staff, students, parents, and the greater community by engaging in and transforming others’ lives through service projects. The Leader in Me is Franklin Covey’s whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Bonita Springs Charter School is a Lighthouse School that engages in ongoing learning and develops as leaders, while championing leadership for the school and others in our community. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Our school participates in many community events throughout the year. Some examples include, Blue Zones Projects Annual Palooza Event where the whole family can attend and engage in well-being activities. Our school hosts a Holiday Cheer Program for our students in need and we participate the Festival of Trees with the Bonita Springs Historical Society where we donate a themed holiday tree for the community to enjoy on exhibit at the McSwain House and then it is bid on to help raise monies to renovate their multi-purpose annex building. Our school also hosts a Safety Town for our community of children ages 2-4 years old. We proudly donate fresh food from our garden to the Café of Life. We hold an annual canned food drive to donate to the Salvation Army. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES At Bonita Springs Charter School we offer an abundance of extracurricular activities for our student body that support their academics, social longings, athleticism and creativity. Our students have the option to participate in physical afterschool activities and our middle school students can try out for intramural sports based on their personal interest. We offer Cross Country, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Track, Tennis and Golf. Bonita Springs Charter School also offers Fall and Spring sessions to our students after school Enrichment Clubs based on team member and students’ interests and passions. Some examples are; Arts and Crafts, Book Clubs, Cooking with Mathematics, Cheer and Tumbling, Science Experiments, LEGO Club, Girls on the Run, American Girl Doll, Martial Arts, Sports and Jedi Training Academy. ACHIEVEMENTS We are a proud Leader in Me Lighthouse School with evidence that we produce outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing leadership initiatives with fidelity and excellence. We are a Blue Zones Approved School and Worksite where we encourage better eating habits, implement and educate about tobacco-free policies, and increase physical activity to help our students and parents form healthy habits for life and we support a healthy environment, improve our productivity and reduce our health care costs. We are a 5 Star School and a Golden School Award Recipient recognized by the Florida Department of Education, Commissioners Community Involvement Council. We are presented annually with these awards for our exemplary evidence of community involvement and parental volunteerism. We strive to keep our team members, students and families informed on all important information, upcoming events and how they can get involved. We continually communicate with our parents via e-mail, phone and text messages. We send Lighthouse Points Newsletters which includes all upcoming communication. We hold AdvancED regional accreditation which is recognized by the United States Department of Education for rules, standards and common practices. 1/3 of our teaching staff hold their Master’s Degree in Education Through Leader in Me, there are 45 student leadership teams offered 70% decrease in student discipline referrals since we became a Leader in Me School We average a 95% attendance rate More than half of our students receive recognition for A or A/B Honor Roll Our students average about 100 community outreach projects per year We average 15K per year for charitable funds raised by our student body We average over 10,000 parent volunteer hours per year SCHOOL REPORT CARD We are an A rated school (projected). Bonita Springs Charter is at or above the district average in all subject areas on Florida Standards Assessment. All of our end of course exams for middle school students taking accelerated courses have a consecutive 100% passing rate. We have a 96% average parent satisfaction rate on engagement, equity, local decision making, loyalty, school safety and social emotional learning.
