Blue Ridge School District is a small rural school system located in rural Northeastern Pennsylvania. Our district takes great pride in providing a world class education to children within our communities. The mission of Blue Ridge School District is to provide an excellent, current, and applicable education built on mutual respect and a commitment to graduating students who are college, career or trade ready.
About This Cause
Overview The Blue Ridge School District is a small, rural, public school district located in northeastern Pennsylvania. It serves the Boroughs of Great Bend, Hallstead and New Milford and the townships of Great Bend, Jackson and New Milford in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. The district encompasses approximately 100 square miles. The District is the largest employer within its boundaries.In addition to the regional stone mason and farming industries, private and public business entities support the local economy; this includes Marcellus Shale related businesses, medical care centers (i.e. Endless Mountain Health Center, Barnes Kasson Medical Center), higher education institutions (i.e. Lackawanna College), small retail sales centers, and outdoor and recreational areas (i.e. State GameLands). The public community resources available to our District residents are typically county government based. The Susquehanna County services available to our children and their families include Susquehanna County Children & Youth, Susquehanna County Drug & Alcohol, Susquehanna County Mental Health/Mental Retardation, Susquehanna County Juvenile Probation, Susquehanna County United Way, and Susquehanna County Big Brother / Big Sister.The Blue Ridge School District provides an exemplary educational program for the children of our District that includes instruction in all academic areas relevant to their preparation for the future. An extensive variety of after school activities in the arts, academics and athletics are provided to our children, as well. It must be noted that the Blue Ridge School District provides educational programs that meet the needs of all children. In addition to the regular instruction of the core curriculum to our District children, other learning opportunities and support presented to our children include; Special Education services, including related services; ESL services; 504 Plan accommodations; 21st Century Learning Center After School Program, Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth program (PATH); Credit Recovery for "At Risk" high school students; Student Assistance Programs; and Instructional Support Programs based upon the principles RTII at the elementary level. The Blue Ridge School District is not only an educational institution that prepares our children for the challenges and opportunities of their future; it is also a provider of various social services and a contact point for families with community organizations. Such connections occur through the availability of District staff and facilities made accessible to these groups and resources.
