About This Cause
4th ANNUAL Belle Forest Community School 5K for Literacy April 7, 2018, 9:00 A.M. www.belleforest5k.com It’s almost time for the 4th Annual Belle Forest Community School 5K for Literacy. The event will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 7, 2018. You can show support for increasing literacy in our community by being a volunteer. We also need your help in spreading the word to runners/walkers. Net proceeds go to the school’s Literacy Program, which will use funds to purchase important resources, such as classroom libraries and online literacy programs. A little about the school… • Belle Forest Community School serves over 1,200 students and their families in the Hickory Hill area. It is also the first Community School in Memphis -- a Community School is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, services, supports and opportunities leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. Schools become centers of the community, open to everyone, all day, every day, evenings and weekends. • Belle Forest Community School was named a Reward School in 2015 for being in the top 5% in the state of Tennessee for academic growth. • Belle Forest Community School has partnered with the Mexican Consulate and has created Plaza Comunitaria, a community center for the Hispanic community in Memphis and surrounding areas, offering numerous resources to the Hispanic community, including educational opportunities where adults learn to read in their native language and in English!
