Mission Statement
St. Marcus’ mission is to disciple children for Christ now and for all eternity, and to train them in excellence for their roles in their family, church, community, workplace and country.
About This Cause
St. Marcus’ driving vision is that every family in the city of Milwaukee has access to high-quality education. We here at St. Marcus see treasure in the heart of this city, but you have to search to find it. That’s why our school has remained here for 143 years and why our staff and families have moved to the Harambee neighborhood where our campuses reside. The treasure’s rediscovered every time a child realizes, "I can do this!" 150 staff members work endlessly to have that thought glimmer daily in the minds of 920 students. In a city where black advancement is limited, where 45% drop out of high school and 13% of males spend time in prison, we treat each scholar as a born success story. With two campuses now and more to come, we are building a home here with them. Partners like you have discovered true wealth: lives of service, unearthing what is true and good in the community that surrounds us. St. Marcus continues to deliver its city-best programming, but highlights and new programming for this year and the upcoming school year will create big changes in our scholars’ output. Project Lead the Way is one of the nation’s premier science curricula, providing teachers with high-quality training to implement inquiry-based, hands-on science learning that excites creative thinking and a lifelong passion for the sciences. Zearn for mathematics and Wit and Wisdom for reading pushes our scholars further, faster, ensuring all are ready for challenging high school coursework. St. Marcus currently serves 11% special needs students; we receive a call every week from a parent who heard of our amazing teachers and hoped to enroll for our special education programming specifically. Our community development program combines home ownership, financial literacy, and job opportunities with ongoing mentorship from our coordinator and other successful parents. Discover America experiential learning culminates yearlong learning outside the classroom with a week-long excursion across the country. Scholars are overjoyed to learn firsthand our country’s history, geography and cultures, and they share of themselves with others all the way.
