WASHINGTON MONTESSORI SCHOOL

Mission Statement

Inspired by the philosophy of educator and physician Maria Montessori, Elvira and Otis Charles established the Washington Montessori School (WMS) in 1965. The school has flourished since then and now offers academic programs for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, as well as special programs for infants and toddlers. In 2003, WMS moved to a new building on a beautiful, wooded 48-acre campus.

About This Cause

Tuition alone cannot cover the programs that make WMS an exceptional place to learn. Each year, we ask parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni and friends to help us bridge this gap. Money raised for the WMS Annual Fund benefits our students by: Maintaining the health and safety of our children and teachers Supporting our outstanding staff and staff development Providing tuition assistance to families who need it Expanding our outdoor classroom options Funding special programs in the arts & sciences to enhance our curriculum Ensuring that our technology and training are adequately updated for new ways of working and connecting, and for enhanced Distance Learning. Your gift to the WMS Annual Fund is part of a community-wide investment in the education of each WMS student, as well as an affirmation of those dedicated teachers and staff to whom we entrust our children every day.
