HDFFA is seeking Central Oregon community members to volunteer for on-farm harvesting events where we collect produce that may otherwise go to waste. This volunteer opportunity is run through our Grow & Give Program, where we partner with local farms to organize and run donation and harvest events to collect fresh produce. This produce is then distributed to our food bank partner, NeighborImpact. The Harvest Team is an on-call crew and duties include harvesting fresh produce, loading produce for transportation to the food bank and managing harvesting tools. This volunteer position may require lifting objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

Time Commitment and Location: Harvest Team members can expect to commit an average of 2 – 4 hours of time per harvest event, not including time spent traveling to and from local farms. All harvest events take place on site, on farms in Crook, Jefferson, and Deschutes counties.

The St. Louis MetroMarket is a mobile grocery store that travels to areas with limited access to fresh, healthy food. MetroMarket’s innovative approach uses a customer model to empower the community to shop at significantly lower prices than retail grocers. Fresh, affordable produce has been carefully selected from local farm partners and is brought directly to partner sites in the community.

Warehouse Volunteers:

Warehouse Volunteers are a vital part of the St. Louis MetroMarket crew. Warehouse Volunteers will help ensure that the MetroMarket is ready to go into the community filled with fresh produce. This volunteer opportunity is fun and fast paced, requiring high energy, fast learning, a great attitude, and the ability to think on your feet.

Volunteers must be able to:
Lift at least 25 pounds
Stand for 2 hours

Volunteer task include:
Packing bags of fresh produce
Loading items onto the bus
General cleaning
Disposing of bad produce
Stamping MetroMarket logo onto bags
This opportunity is located at Operation Food Search.

Warehouse volunteers are scheduled for Wednesday-Friday.

Volunteers are required to wear a mask and be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Important information:
Wear close toed shoes, no sandals are allowed for safety concerns.
You will be in a warehouse setting, please wear casual clothes that can get dirty.
Feel free to bring water bottles, we have a fountain that you can refill them at.

Opportunity Details

Shop out Hunger is Operation Food Search’s largest annual food drive. This regional event collects a large number of non-perishable foods that provides nutrition to over 200,000 people a month.

On Saturday, August 13, Operation Food Search will come together with our local family-owned grocery stores, Schnucks, Dierbergs, and Straub's Markets, to host Shop Out Hunger.

Many volunteers are needed to position themselves at grocery stores throughout the St. Louis bi-state area to encourage shoppers to donate food as they shop on Saturday, August 13.

We are seeking at least two volunteers per store and per shift. Some stores have different requirements than other and those will be explained once you are assigned a store.

Every Saturday AM we operate two volunteer shifts who help pack food boxes (7 to 9 AM summer hours, 8 to 10AM winter hours) and hand out food boxes (9 to 11 AM summer hours, 10 to Noon winter hours) to over 275 food insecure families in a mobile drive up line, moving as much as 15 tons of well rounded nutrition to more than 1,200 people weekly, and supporting a community of about 3,500 families annually. In 2016, a small group established Irie Kids Inc. to support children on the island of Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean. We run three programs covering pet-care education, first-period preparedness, and a food pantry. We also provide tutoring to children in the community.
Now, we're ready to expand our programs and are looking for volunteers with a variety of skills to help scale the charity to support children countrywide.
If you have skills in UX Research/Design, Program or Product Management, Graphic Design, Marketing, Social Media, Coding, or have a couple of hours to help us write grant applications or set-up our systems, we're looking for you!

Opportunity Details

Come help us get hyperlocal, ultrafresh organic foods grown on the Rooftop Medicine Farm in Oakland out to the people who need the good medicine. Every Thursday from 1-4pm, volunteers are needed to help transplant, cultivate, and harvest foods that we deliver to our area partners to address the manufactured crisis of food deserts and hunger. All our foods are grown using agroecological methods, which means happier soil and happier farmers.

Rooftop Medicine Farm Director Alayna Reid will be overseeing all volunteers and may end up cruising the roof on roller skates wielding a hoe. Come participate in the largest rooftop farm in the West, which is being put to use to heal our communities from the ground up!

All food grown here is given to people at no cost through the food distribution work of Moms4Housing, Poor Magazine, UCSF Children's Hospital Oakland Pediatrics Clinic, Parker Community School, Wahpepah's Kitchen and Essential Food and Medicine.
