The steering committee is an advisory group that makes directional decisions on various organizational projects. Its members serve as the "staff" of the Portland Food Project and some work as coordinators for specific tasks such as Volunteer Coordinator, Database Coordinator, Media & PR Coordinator, etc...
Opportunity Details
It’s quick and easy! The Portland Food Project has developed a system that makes it easy for people to donate food. First, fill out the form below. You will be assigned to a Neighborhood Coordinator in your area, and that person will contact you and drop off a welcome kit and one of our green bags. The coordinator will tell you when the next pickup is, and you will also get an email reminder. (Pickups are on the second Saturday of alternate months.)
Then simply fill your green bag with whatever you would like to donate and on the second Saturday of alternate months your Neighborhood Coordinator will come by, pick up your bag of food, and leave you a bag for the next pickup.

What does a Neighborhood Coordinator do?It’s amazingly simple. You just organize a small group of neighbors to be Food Donors. Each donor gets a reusable green bag to store food in. Every two months you pick up their full bag, leave an empty one for next time, and bring all the bags to a drop-off point, where volunteers receive and sort it. Then record the donor tallies online when you get back home.

Hey all you Hunger Heroes!! There are 821 Million people that go to bed hungry every night. 84,000 in just the NE Indiana area alone. Are you ready to do something about it in a fun, family-friendly and impactful way that only takes 2 hours of your time!! Are you in?!? Let’s do this!!Face masks are required and we'll be set up for social distancing.
While we do not charge a fee to be involved in our Public Packing events, we appreciate donations to further our work to end world hunger. Ideally, we’d like each person or family to cover the cost of one carton of meals.
Just one carton of meals that you will pack feeds 216 children and costs just $60. That’s a mere $.27 per meal! What can we do without once or twice that will equal 216 meals? How many boxes would you like to donate?
We are looking forward to seeing you and partnering with you to feed the hungry!!

The ECO Center is a hub that connects people with the essential resources, information, and opportunities they need to develop their skills so they can liberate themselves and their communities. In addition to distributing two tons of food a week to our neighbors we also teach sign language, music production, self defense, financial, technical, and academic literacy to our neighbors of all ages. In addition to our programming space, we have 3 apartments upstairs that we provide to young adults that teach and serve at The ECO Center for 15 hours a week in exchange for housing, utilities, and food. Our goal is to purchase our building, so we can transform lives for generations to come. In order to raise $450K by August 16th (one year anniversary) we will need all of the support we can get. Please consider investing your time into this project.
