There is a wonderful program popping up in cities all around the U.S. where mutual aid groups are getting volunteers to donate space and refrigerators in areas to provide access to free meals and ingredients that houseless or food insecure people might not otherwise be able to get. NW Veg wants to find an army of volunteers to help us stock these fridges with meals and ingredients that are dairy/meat/egg free for folks who cannot or choose not to eat foods with those in it. You can stock it with something as simple as vegan cheeses/milks/babyfood/butter/nut butters/bread, etc or depending on the fridge program you're dropping off to you can make a meal and put it in a to-go container for folks to grab.To sign up and get information on:
-Which fridges are in your area that need re-stocking
-Current rules and restrictions on what can and cannot be donated
-Protocols on how to safely handle/prepare food
-Recipes for fast and simple vegan dishes that the community has requested
Please email danielle@nwveg.org and we can send you all that info and answer any questions you may have.

The steering committee is an advisory group that makes directional decisions on various organizational projects. Its members serve as the "staff" of the Portland Food Project and some work as coordinators for specific tasks such as Volunteer Coordinator, Database Coordinator, Media & PR Coordinator, etc...
Opportunity Details
It’s quick and easy! The Portland Food Project has developed a system that makes it easy for people to donate food. First, fill out the form below. You will be assigned to a Neighborhood Coordinator in your area, and that person will contact you and drop off a welcome kit and one of our green bags. The coordinator will tell you when the next pickup is, and you will also get an email reminder. (Pickups are on the second Saturday of alternate months.)
Then simply fill your green bag with whatever you would like to donate and on the second Saturday of alternate months your Neighborhood Coordinator will come by, pick up your bag of food, and leave you a bag for the next pickup.

Opportunity Details
What does a Neighborhood Coordinator do?It’s amazingly simple. You just organize a small group of neighbors to be Food Donors. Each donor gets a reusable green bag to store food in. Every two months you pick up their full bag, leave an empty one for next time, and bring all the bags to a drop-off point, where volunteers receive and sort it. Then record the donor tallies online when you get back home.
