Thank you for your interest in volunteering for FareShare, the UK’s leading charity fighting hunger and tackling food waste. You will have an eye-opening day helping in our warehouse to prepare food to deliver to charities and community groups. Please bear in mind that this is a working warehouse and we need you to be prepared to help our team of regular volunteers.

Volunteering schedule and duties
9.00 – Arrival, tour of the FareShare warehouse and health and safety briefing

10.00 - Your volunteering could include:
o Sorting ambient food (tins, jars, pasta and rice) into categories and loading trays ready for delivery
o Sorting through food deliveries arriving into the warehouse, separating chilled and ambient food
o Assisting in the office using our database to process food orders and allocate deliveries to charities for the following day
o Picking food orders for charities for delivery the following day, finding and packing a range of items, from fresh meat and dairy, to cereal, bread and instant coffee
o Labelling orders for the correct charity partners, ready for delivery the following day

What to wear
Please feel free to wear casual clothes that are suitable for manual work. It can be chilly in the warehouse in the winter and warm in the summer so we suggest that you wear layers. FareShare will issue you with safety boots upon arrival, therefore you must wear or bring socks with you. We have lockers which have space for shoes, phone, wallet, and your bag, so your personal items will be secure.

Health and safety
There will be a health and safety briefing on the day and further information is available in the warehouse. You must be physically fit and aware of your own ability especially when lifting. If you have any medical conditions please let us know in advance, as you may not be able to volunteer with us.

Refreshments
Tea, coffee and water are freely available. We often have sandwiches and snacks when you have a break. However, if you have any specific dietary requirements please bring a packed lunch.

Taking photos
We encourage people to take photos of their team on the day. Prior permission will be needed before photos are taken of anyone in our warehouse, please speak to a member of staff about permission to post on social media.

PROYECTO “¿Y SI FUERAS TÚ...? ¡SIÉNTATE A LA MESA!”
Es una campaña de sensibilización y concienciación desarrollada por la Fundación Hospitalaria de la Orden de Malta de España -FHOME- con la que queremos dar a conocer, mediante la vivencia, la difícil situación de precariedad alimentaria que viven 1 de cada 5 personas en nuestro país.

Voluntariado corporativo: “Siéntate a la mesa y comparte”
Cada comedor social necesita una media diaria de 20/25 personas. A través del voluntariado queremos vivir la solidaridad entre personas, compartir historias de vida, experiencias, inquietudes, deseos y sueños. La persona voluntaria tendrá la oportunidad de conocer de primera mano, algunas causas de la pobreza y la exclusión social y de tomar conciencia de lo que supone gozar -o no gozar- de ciertas ventajas que da la vida. Sin duda, un acto solidario que ofrece la oportunidad de valorar y celebrar las pequeñas cosas de la vida.

Queremos ofrecer a los empleados de Google la oportunidad de implicarse en una experiencia social que les transformará y enriquecerá a la vez que mostrar apoyo y solidaridad hacia personas en situación de exclusión en la ciudad de Madrid y Sevilla.

Esta colaboración generará un impacto en la sociedad, en la compañía, en los equipos de trabajo y en especial, en las a personas en riesgo de exclusión social y/o excluidas que atiende FHOME.

Nuestros voluntarios
20/25 Voluntarios al día son necesarios para el comedor. Actualmente el comedor cuenta con una Base de Datos de 700 voluntarios que a través de rotación por equipos, organizan y coordinan todas las tareas del comedor social, durante todos los días del año. Las principales funciones del voluntario son:
• Reposición de almacenes
• Preparación de las mesas
• Atención a personas vulnerables en puerta y acompañándoles en las mesas
• Limpieza y recogida diaria de las instalaciones
• Tareas administrativas varias.

Perfil del voluntario
• 72% son mujeres
• 49% compagina el voluntariado con su dedicación laboral. El 51% restante son estudiantes, personas jubiladas, etc.
• El 66% tiene titulación universitaria.
• El 49% apoya la actividad semanalmente.

Compromiso
Cada voluntario decide su nivel de compromiso y por ello existen voluntarios que colaboran:
Semanalmente, quincenalmente, mensualmente y ocasionalmente
