VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Product Selection Area (PSA) Support Volunteer is responsible for providing assistance in the day-to-day operation of PSA, contributing to the organization’s efficiency.

ACTIVITIES & EXPECTATIONS
• Greet community partners and help them to select product
• Assist Food Handlers in Operations Department effectively run the PSA
• Restock product on PSA floor
• Consolidate product on PSA floor
• Streamline Community Partner check out process
• Help Community Partners load vehicles
• Act as the “eyes and ears” of PSA, and report any wrongdoings or corrective actions to supervisor, Kim Wilcox
• Be aware of/enforce PSA Rules for Community Partner Product Selectors
• Could be expanded into additional responsibilities like assisting other positions within Operations and Partner Development & Support departments

REQUIREMENTS
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to take and follow direction well
• Must be self-directed and skilled at problem solving
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds
• Must be able to pull/push 30 pounds with a pallet jack

HOW THIS ROLE IS TIED TO OUR MISSION
PSA is a very important place within the Food Distribution Center. It is where our community partners come to pick up food to take back to their organizations to either prepare or distribute to individuals and/or families in need. Our PSA Support Volunteer is key to the effectiveness of running PSA. This volunteer would be the right-hand help to our Food Handlers in our Operations department. This opportunity would provide you with the ability to directly support Second Harvest’s operational needs and serve our community partners through your skills and abilities.

HOURS
We are looking for a volunteer to consistently commit to one morning shift per week, Monday – Friday, from 8:00AM – 1:00PM for a minimum of 6 months.

TRAINING AND SUPERVISION
On-the-job training will be provided by Operations staff member, Lloyd Bradsher, and supervision provided by Kim Wilcox, Partner Development & Support Coordinator.

This is our organizations 5th time hosting this event. Upcycle Boutique is a clothing swap where we turn the Weirs Buick GMC showroom in Arundel into a shop/boutique for women and teen girls to come and shop! We would love to have more help with setting up our boutique - getting all clothing organized prior to participant arrival. Stacking/folding/hanging/moving racks and then cleaning up clothes that are not taken after the event to be distributed to local shelter programs.

Help us support our Shoe Away Hunger program by distributing new and gently used shoes on our Good In The Hood Shoe Bus. We will be parked by the Fridley Community Center. We offer shoes for a small suggested donation. We use the proceeds to fund hunger relief efforts in the Twin Cities, and each pair of shoes sold will purchase a week's worth of groceries for someone in need. We look forward to serving with you!

Opportunity Details

Food distribution and thrift center days (Tuesdays and Saturdays) and as needed to support the food pantry and thrift center operations. Coordinate volunteers across the food pantry operation and help in the thrift center as needed. Arrive 1 hour before the center opens get food and groceries ready for distribution. Restock all items throughout the shift and remain after closing to clean.

As a 100% volunteer run operation, we are always looking for people interested in helping the community or in need of learning work place skills. We are a Nonprofit food distribution center, located in Fife, WA; in a sense, we are like a food bank to the food banks. We gather donated items and then distribute them to food banks and outreach programs. Currently, we provide resources for 35 different community programs in Washington State impacting over 15,000 families.

Mid City Nutrition Program is a non profit soup kitchen in Port Huron Michigan serving meals to anyone in need 7 days a week. Our Empty Bowl event is our largest fundraiser of the year bringing in almost 1/4 of our yearly income.
The event itself is 3 hours long. Guests receive a hand crafted bowl of their choice along with a light meal dinner. Door prizes are given out and a silent auction is held.
We need volunteers to help prepare and serve the dinner.
