Hunger can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. In Waterloo Region, 1 in 20 households access food assistance, including, emergency hamper programs, community centres, outreach, community meals and shelter and residential services.

Accessing emergency food assistance looks different for everyone; for some it means bridging the gap between paycheques, a safety net to help them during a sudden job loss or unexpected change, and for others, it is literally a lifesaver.

Hosting a Food & Fund Drive is a great opportunity to have a big impact, make a difference, and of course to have some fun!

You might be wondering how you can have the biggest impact, by donating food or funds? Both food and funds are important to our work at The Food Bank:

Financial donations help keep our freezers and coolers operating, support the development and expansion of food support programs, such as the Mobile Pantry, assist in purchasing any food items needed to fill gaps in our inventory and meet the community diverse needs, and keep our delivery vehicles on the road!
Remember $10 can provide 30 healthy meals!

Food donations help fill gaps in our inventory and provide variety in the food we acquire, coordinate, and distribute throughout the Community Food Assistance Network.

If you are interested in hosting a Food & Fund Drive at your office, or with family and friends, visit: thefoodbank.ca/ffd to register and learn how we can help with customized donation pages, event promotion and more.

The Committee organizes volunteering, networking, and fundraising events – held virtually, on campus, or nearby, and only for Microsoft employees – and communicates Live United events – held all across King County and open to anyone.

As a reminder, anyone can be a member of the Live United group! There are no requirements to join and Live United events are still open to all, though we encourage you to donate and become part of our Giving Communities to further your impact.

Food sorts are a great way for employees to learn about teamwork and the importance of community involvement and gain further knowledge about Second Harvest’s food recovery programs. We are currently delivering enough food for over 30,000 meals every day. Often, the food donations arrive in large bins which need to be sorted into smaller boxes for our recipient agencies across the GTA. We need volunteers in our warehouse to help sort that food.

There is a separate room for volunteer food sorts at our new HQ and COVID-19 protocols will be in place (New Second Harvest HQ in Etobicoke, as well as our current HQ in North York).
