The Georgetown Food Bank has been serving the diverse population of the Georgetown and SoDo neighborhoods for over 20 years. A precious resource to the community, we served 42,344 households at our Food Bank last year alone. With the help of our community, we provide nutritious food, free clothing, health checkups, resource assistance, and a special Community Connector Program that links our neighbors with outside resources.Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Within the Food Bank, help move boxes of food around and stage for distribution
• Sort and bag fresh produce
• Assist with food distribution and replenish food bins
• Tactfully reinforce Food Bank policies regarding the number of items available depending on family size
• Help guests carry groceries to their cars
• Assist clients in locating and selecting clothing appropriate to their needs
Skills Necessary:
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Comfortable in a busy environment
• Ability to work on your feet for several hours
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy objects repeatedly
• Courtesy and helpfulness
• Closed toe shoes are required
• Fluency in English, and a foreign language is a plus
• Good customer service skills and the ability to work in a team are required

Our Assistance Services and Pantry Program is looking for volunteers to help with sorting food and containers on Wednesday, February 26th from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Volunteers will meet with our staff at our Assistance Services and Pantry Program (11484 Washington Plaza West, Suite 120, Reston, VA 20190) at 9:00am. Volunteer Impact: Our Assistance Services and Pantry Program (ASAPP) helps to feed over 6,000 people a year – volunteers help to make this possible by helping out in a variety of ways! Sorting and organizing our storage units helps Cornerstones to effectively serve the community.
Volunteer duties: Sorting and organizing food containers. Volunteers who are comfortable with lifting items that are 15 to 25lbs will also assist with moving items.
Location Conditions: It is recommended that volunteers check the weather the day of the opportunity so that they can wear the proper attire. All volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they can easily move around in.

Food Pantry volunteers shop with clients, restock shelves, and help load groceries in cars.This is a great volunteer opportunity for regular weekly volunteers or volunteers looking to give back as needed. Volunteers needed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with various shifts. All volunteer shifts must be scheduled in advance. This short term volunteer provides crucial assistance during one of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s single largest events, the Food Fair. Open to the public, this Food Fair connects members of the community who may lack an adequate disposable income with an ample supply of fresh produce. This role is a good fit for volunteers who enjoy participating in large group events.This is an ongoing event and happens every 1st, 3rd and 4th Saturday of the month.

MANNA distributes 50,000 pounds of food everyday to serve the more than 110,000 people in WNC's 16 counties facing food insecurity. This is achieved through the hard work of nearly 100 volunteers in MANNA's warehouse everyday. Volunteer projects change daily in the warehouse based on priority and need. Projects could include, but are not limited to: sorting and packing food donations, packing housewares and hygiene products, culling and bagging produce, or packing MANNA Packs.Available Shifts

Opportunity Details
We are converting an acre of land over to raised beds. We are going into this growing season with 20 rows or a total of 180 - 12'X3' beds. We have room to build more beds and will continue to add them as we have volunteers to help us. All the produce that is grown is donated out to food pantries, low-income senior organizations, community meals throughout Montgomery and Bucks Counties.We are looking for volunteers to help us top off our current beds with soil, spread mulch in the pathways, plant, weed, water and pick. We will need volunteers from late March until the end of October.
The garden is in Towamencin Township. We can accommodate groups or individuals can sign up on their own. We have a link on our website where volunteers can sign up or you can email us at info@gardenofhealthinc.org
Parking is limited. We ask groups to car pool and we can handle groups around 15-20 people.
