Hey all you Hope Heroes!! It’s time to get together again to pack meals for the hungry, specifically to feed the refugees coming out of the Ukraine and those devastated by the earthquakes in Hungry and Syria. Are you in?!? Let’s do this!!We’ll be packing meals on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at The Ash Center (Academy of Sports & Health Center) located at 1701 Freeman St, Fort Wayne, IN. Look for Door #4, the entrance to the basketball court off Freeman St.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow for the check-in process.
Take advantage of a MATCHING GRANT opportunity! While we do not charge a fee to be involved in our Public Packing events, we appreciate donations to further our work to end world hunger. Ideally, we’d like each person or family to cover the cost of one carton of meals. AND…we just were awarded a matching donation grant from our soy producer ADM so, your donation will DOUBLE!
Just one carton of meals that you will pack feeds 216 children and costs just $65. That’s a mere $.30 per meal! What can we do without once or twice that will equal 216 meals? Feel free to donate as many boxes as you’d like to feed those who have so little.

Join us on a day of service and remembrance from 10am-3pm, 11 September 2023. Located at 118 Main Street, the St. Elizabeth’s House is a beacon of aid to those in crisis throughout our community. Listed below are activities to facilitate throughout the day. The first two listed will run from 10am-1pm. The group will reunite to complete the day in the final activity.1. The Hartford volunteer group will aid in opening the food pantry to the community for two hours. This effort requires between 10-14 individuals to complete the following tasks.
• Greet participants and aid in completing a questionnaire.
• Assist individuals navigate our food pantry shopping our isles of nonperishable food.
• Bag the acquired groceries and add a premade toiletry kit to the items gathered.
2. The Hartford volunteers may aid in serving lunch to the residents of St. Elizabeth’s House. This effort requires 2-3 individuals who will join our kitchen staff to prepare menu items and assist in plating desired menu options for each of the clients. Lunch service is from 12pm-1pm and serves between 30-40 individuals.
3. The Hartford volunteers could aid in an activity themed around the day of remembrance. Options are listed below.
• Crafting activity incorporating either colors of the flag or fall items.
• Facilitate yard games that can take place indoors or outdoors, including yard bowling set, cornhole, field-day themed activities.
• Guide discussion of mindfulness and/or self-care in times of stress.

Crossroads is seeing extraordinary demand for the Soup Kitchen services from needy New Yorkers and newly arrived migrants, serving over 80,000 meals since the beginning of the year. Crossroads serves breakfast 4 morning a week and dinner 7 nights a week. Colgate can help ensure that Crossroads has enough for everyone by making between 200 and 400 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to be served with dinner that evening or breakfast the next morning.Available Shifts

Thank you for signing up to serve in-person or make a dish for The Charlie Center. Each month we serve 1300 clients who are experiencing homelessness in Travis and Williamson Counties, and we are proud to serve each of them a hot homemade nutritious meal every week. We can not do this without our incredible Volunteer Community! Thank you.
**Special Note** We have 13x20" aluminum pans and Rudy's shredded chicken for your convenience. Please stop by The Charlie Center to pick these items up ahead of time. Reach out to volunteer@thecharliecenter.org to reserve your chicken.
MAKE A DISH INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Find a date and dish that works with your schedule, click the sign-up button.
2. Enter your name, email, and the quantity you plan to bring of the dish you have signed up for.
3. In your email confirmation you will receive a recipe document link, calendar link, and volunteer waiver form.
4. Enjoy making the dish from the comfort of your own home.
5. All dishes should fill a 13x20" aluminum pan. (Please do not substitute another size pan. We depend on the number of servings that completely fills a 13x20" pan.)
6. All dishes should be dropped off to The Charlie Center, hot and ready to serve, by 9:15am. (Please do not bring your dish cold or frozen.)
SERVE IN-PERSON INSTRUCTIONS:
Our In-Person Volunteer Shift is from 9am to 1:15pm. Volunteers will help with setup, cleanup, checking clients in, help serve a beautiful meal, and help our clients check their mail.

DISH DROP-OFF & VOLUNTEER ARRIVAL LOCATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Our address is 12675 Research Blvd. Austin, TX 78759. We are located towards the back of the Mosaic Church Campus in the "Student Building". The physical address where you will drop off your dish is 12116 Jekel Circle. The entrance of The Charlie Center is marked by purple and green Charlie Center flags. Proceed through the iron courtyard gates. Our front door is located towards the back of the courtyard. If our door is closed please knock, and a team member will let you in. (Our clients will already be lined up in the courtyard upon your arrival.)
CANCEL INFORMATION (PLEASE DO NOT NO-SHOW):
If you are not able to bring your dish, please reach out to volunteer@thecharliecenter.org immediately. We depend on each dish so that we can provide one meal for every client that checks in during our Hospitality & Navigation Day. If we are short on food, we may not be able to serve everyone a hot meal. Giving us advance notice will help us to come up with a plan to cover your dish. Thank you.

Join an international community dedicated to fighting poverty. This program is a great way to experience an authentic side of Barcelona, forging lifelong friendships, and engaging in activities like food collection and distribution.
Typical Week:
Monday: focus on planning and preparing activities for the week, with additional workshops.
Tuesday: involve food bank operations, disinfection, and distribution to local families.
Wednesday: activities with elderly people, coaching sessions, and language classes.
Thursday: working on an organic farm and ending with a meditation workshop.
Friday: team meetings, food distribution to the homeless, and monthly charity events.
Saturday and Sunday: rest and enjoy Barcelona.
There is also a general training of two hours per week covering cross-cultural aspects, human resources, food regulations, and NGO management.
