Looking to combat hunger in Harford County? The EPICENTER at Edgewood is seeking volunteers for our April Health Fair and Food Giveaway.

Each month, The EPICENTER hosts a Health Fair and Food Giveaway, through which we partner with Maryland Food Bank and Tabitha's House to give away more than 7,000 pounds of food to Harford County citizens in need. We will also have various community organizations come and share information and resources, including free employment readiness counseling, free chiropractic care, free health and dental screenings, free financial education, information on low-cost and free healthcare options, and more for all community members.

Volunteers may help with any of the following tasks: setting up for the Fair, sorting food, bagging food, giving food bags to guests, or cleaning up after the event. In addition, if you speak Spanish, we could always use help translating for Spanish-speaking guests (though Spanish skills are not required).

Our April Health Fair will take place on Friday, April 13th from 2-5 p.m. Volunteers may help during either of both of the following shifts:
1. General (includes food sorting, bagging, and distribution)- 1-4 p.m.
2. Clean-up (includes food distribution and post-event clean-up)- 2:30-5:30 p.m.

If you have time on the 13th and a heart for those in need, we would be delighted to have you serve with us! Also, if you or someone you know are in need of food or other services, you are welcome to receive food or visit with the resources that will be there as well.

Please contact Lauren Savard at laurens@epicenteratedgewood.com with any questions. The EPICENTER is located on Route 40 in the shopping center behind the Walgreen's.

The Giving Farm is a farm-to-food bank program, managed by these four bodies: Agriculture Sciences Program at Westminster High School (“WHS”), the Orange County Food Bank (“CAPOC”), the Orange County Farm Bureau (“OCFB”) and Solutions for Urban Agriculture (“SFUA”). We aim to promote student and community engagement in the California agricultural industry. The project expects to deliver over 200,000 pounds of produce annually for consumption by low-income communities. Our goal is to alleviate a major symptom of poverty, hunger, by providing a basic human need, food. This enhances opportunities for students and volunteers to learn about sustainable agricultural land use and the connection to local food networks and also provides nutrition education about the importance of healthy eating and active lifestyles for at-risk youth.

We are a fully functional farm with fields of crops, greenhouse, livestock, orchard, native garden, hydroponics/aquaponics, etc. Our demand for volunteers varies based on the harvest cycle but we do need help year-round. We are currently between harvest cycles preparing for the next round of crops which will most likely be watermelon, squash, lettuce, and a few others.

The projects we are looking for volunteers to help with also varies but you may expect to work on the following tasks:
● Planting seeds in the fields
● Planting cane berries along fence
● Transplanting strawberries
● Installing irrigation systems
● Maintaining the farm by weeding, clearing debris, repairing tools, etc.

We are very flexible on the dates/times for volunteers. We can plan a volunteer event around your groups schedule. Let me know what works best and I will add the shift to this portal.

Join us on Thursday's in Novato to pass out food, set up, and enjoy yourselves while helping the less fortunate in our community.

Free, nutritious food; health education; cooking demonstrations; screenings for diabetes and hypertension; and various community resources.

It all comes together at Marin Community Clinics’ weekly Health Hubs, held at our San Rafael and Novato clinics.

Despite its overall high income level, Marin County continues to have great economic disparities. Some can’t afford to put healthy food on the table, and others don’t have easy access to important health information, let alone screening for common chronic diseases.

Building health and communities
The goal of the Health Hubs is to serve families, seniors, and the working poor who often have to choose between buying healthy food, purchasing gas to travel to work, or paying for needed medical care.

Our Health Hubs are unique
The program is multi-lingual and multi-cultural, providing relevant resources while creating opportunities to promote healthy lifetime choices.

Partnership among participants - SFMarin Food Bank, ExtraFood.org, Marin Community Clinics, and many other community-based organizations.

Rain or Shine - We have a drive-through line for the food bank, which is great when the weather is bad.
