COMMUNITY IMPACT
We strive to influence our community, by responding to relevant immediate and long term needs, working in kindness, proclaiming the love of God to the world around us, build lasting relationships and equipping people to be a light for Christ in their sphere of influence.

We currently run a monthly food bank program at the Riverside/Hunt-Club community
center in Ottawa where we provide per-packaged groceries bags to 120 low-income families. This is to help address the food insecurity issue which has been identified as one of the pressing needs of low-income families in
this community.

Each pre-packaged groceries bag contains "10 pieces of fresh quarter leg
chicken, 8kg bag of rice or 10lb bag of potatoes, 3lb bag of yellow onions, fresh cauliflower, fresh broccoli, a 1L bottle of sunflower or canola oil, a can of tomato paste or fresh tomatoes, fresh shepherd pepper, and 3lb bag of carrots". We also occasionally provide gift cards alongside the groceries to help these families cater to some other food related needs.

Support us by donating:

- Money - https://www.iatspayments.com/saaura/PA923ED3ACEB2DB965

- Canned foods (beans, soup, tomatoes)
- Dried foods (pasta, rice, porridge, oats)
- Biscuits, granola bars, dried fruits, nuts
- Coffee, tea bags
- Bottled water
- Spreads (peanut butter, jam)
- Bread and crackers

The ORC is at the frontlines of ending hunger and homelessness in Orange County for transitional-aged youth. Many youth we serve have experience in foster care, while others have not been through the foster care system but have face similar challenges, such homelessness, un- or under-employment, mental health crises, human trafficking, or pursuing education without traditional family support.

As a member of our judging panel, you play a critical role in the success of our annual Canstructure event! Students in grades K-12 build 3-dimensional works of art from hundreds of canned food items in this timed competition. Their impressive efforts are showcased at Patrick Henry Mall as they work together to combat hunger using STEM skills, creativity and teamwork. Elementary teams compete remotely by submitting video presentations from their school sites, and middle school and high school teams compete in-person on Saturday, April 26, 2025. All teams are provided clear guidelines and rules for building their CANstructures and are encouraged to refer to the judging rubric throughout the planning, designing and building phases of the competition. Judges can choose to participate on our virtual panel for grades K-5 via video conference the week prior or on our in-person panel at the "main event" at Patrick Henry Mall. All teams are recognized at Center Court at the live event, and trophies are awarded to top teams in each category.

This event is important because it engages youth in a team-based service-learning experience that teaches and reinforces STEM and workplace readiness skills while addressing food insecurity in our local community!
