It's time to stuff our shelves again for our Mobile Food Pantry. Help us with our important food-raising event. Our pantry serves hundreds of home-bound individuals in Monroe and Owen counties by delivering supplemental groceries to them each month.

We have our Stuff-a-Bus with non-perishable food items event scheduled for Saturday November 12th. We have volunteers collecting food at four Kroger locations from 8 am to 2 pm. We need some volunteers to help with collecting donated food items at Kroger North, South, East and West on either shift of 8-11 AM or 11 AM to 2 PM.

And, we still need help at either of our pantry locations to help us swiftly and safely unload all the donations from the buses to tables. This requires ability to bend, lift (no more than 10 pounds), hand off and stack food items. Many hands make light work! Unloading begins around 2:15 (or when first bus arrives) until we're finished, which usually 1 to 1.5 hours. Locations for this are: Area 10, 631 W. Edgewood Dr., Ellettsville; or First United Church, 2420 E. 3rd St., Bloomington.

Our 12th Annual Combat Hunger Day is occurring Saturday, November 12th, from 10am to 6pm. It is our largest food raiser of the year. We need groups/families with dedicated leaders to take grocery store locations around Montgomery and Stewart Counties in 2-4 hour shifts or all day. Groups can be anywhere from 4-12 people per each shift. Volunteers pass out grocery lists to incoming shoppers and man the carts as shoppers bring the items for donations back out. It is a great way to help us and promote your group at the same time. If this is something that you would be interested in doing, please let me know, we sure can use the help!
Throughout the day, a dedicated truck will come out and pick up the donated items. The office staff will come around periodically to empty any cash donations out and to provide you with more lists if needed.
Thank you so much for considering volunteering with us for Combat Hunger!

If you are not with a group, that's OK! We will put you at a location with other people.

One-hour, live Teams event. Remote. Unlimited participants.

As we see in the headlines, the war in Ukraine has exacerbated an already acute global food crisis. The three C’s of COVID, Conflict, and Climate Change drive this crisis, and unless we act now, the situation may become even more dire. However, as many experts have agreed, supporting small-scale farmers, sustainable agriculture, and localized food systems are among the most promising solutions to this crisis.
Learn how Heifer International works globally to help millions of families earn better incomes while producing food for their communities and the world in climate-smart ways. Heifer’s values-based development model even supports equity and understanding within and across our work communities.
As we discuss how critical healthy food systems are to avoiding even greater food insecurity, we will also highlight how you can volunteer in your community and take action at home to help end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth.

The work of Heifer International helps families in 21 countries, including the US, to lift themselves from hunger and poverty to health and prosperity. This program will support that work, and participants will also have the opportunity to volunteer at a local food bank to support their own communities.

This event can be offered throughout the month of October, except for 10/17-10/20.

The Pet Food Pantry is a community resource to assist low-income families and individuals in the City of Los Angeles experiencing financial hardship who need help feeding their animal companions.

The LAAS Pet Food Pantry program receives large donation trucks full of pet food and LAAS volunteers meet at our service centers to unload the pet food in order to disseminate these donations to low-income families in Los Angeles that are struggling to feed their pets.

LAAS Pet Food Pantry is available at three of our locations, East Valley, North Central, and Chesterfield Square (South LA), and feeds over 1100 pets each week. Pet food resources can dwindle in many sectors of animal care, so we also use these large pet food donations to help other shelters, foster programs, and local rescues with their pet food needs.

We need you to join our volunteers in unloading the donation truck, and sorting and organizing the food. Together we can finish the task faster, burn some calories, and end up feeding over 1100 pets.

This community intervention is vital in helping reduce the amount of owner-surrendered animals coming to our shelters and keeping those pets in their homes with their families.

About Grains of Hope
Location:3 CLOVERLEAF LN, FRANKLIN, MA 02038, US
Mission Statement
The modern field of food systems and agriculture is being revolutionized by new technological advances. However, our current food systems are inadequate to feed and nourish the ever-increasing population and do not provide healthy, affordable food for all. We would like to explore the food that we consume, such as where the food comes from and the challenges throughout the supply chain from farm to table. We aim to tackle problems with the current food systems, which includes food insecurity, food waste, malnutrition, unhealthy diets, food safety, efficiency of distribution channels, and long-term sustainability of food systems. Our mission is to raise awareness in our school and local communities about food related challenges, to promote food waste reduction, alleviate hunger, promote healthy diets, well-balanced nutrition, and food safety, and explore techniques to improve food system efficiency and sustainability.

Description
Founded by high school students from various states across the US, we are a vibrant and welcoming community that campaigns to solve food systems related challenges. As a diverse group with members coming from many backgrounds, we welcome members with varying interests to contribute to this cause, as we take both humanities and STEM approaches to further our mission.

We have expanded our organization branches to 5 states in the US, with each branch led by a local team carrying out a unique approach that best addresses food system challenges in its local community.
