Volunteers are an integral part of the NHCA, as we are largely volunteer run and would be unable to conduct most of our programming and events without the work of all our amazing volunteers. The work of our volunteers contribute to a stronger, more resilient community that is vibrant, diverse, inclusive and sustainable. Volunteers at Food Truck Frenzies will be running the membership table, set up with information about volunteering, programs, events and more. Volunteers will be selling memberships and interacting with community members to increase the positive presence of the NCHA and spread knowledge about what we do.

HDFFA is seeking Central Oregon community members to volunteer for on-farm harvesting events where we collect produce that may otherwise go to waste. This volunteer opportunity is run through our Grow & Give Program, where we partner with local farms to organize and run donation and harvest events to collect fresh produce. This produce is then distributed to our food bank partner, NeighborImpact. The Harvest Team is an on-call crew and duties include harvesting fresh produce, loading produce for transportation to the food bank and managing harvesting tools. This volunteer position may require lifting objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

Time Commitment and Location: Harvest Team members can expect to commit an average of 2 – 4 hours of time per harvest event, not including time spent traveling to and from local farms. All harvest events take place on site, on farms in Crook, Jefferson, and Deschutes counties.

The mission of the High Desert Food & Farm Alliance (HDFFA) is to support a healthy and thriving food and farm network in Central Oregon through education, collaboration, and inclusion. We believe that everyone deserves good food. We also believe that individuals participating in our programs and community members interested in our mission should have the opportunity to provide feedback and become leaders in our work.
