OverviewFareStart’s Food Security Team partners with area food rescue nonprofits, local farms, and food businesses to pick up food donations. This product will be used in our community meals, at our mobile markets, to support student training, and in other food security initiatives. It helps FareStart incorporate fresh, local, and nutritious products into those programs, diversify ingredients we wouldn’t otherwise be able to purchase, and minimize costs.
Tasks
This ongoing weekly volunteer role will support in a variety of activities, including:
• Receiving, sorting, and processing recovered and donated food for immediate use, transfer, or long-term storage
• Prepping product to be viable for immediate use by kitchens and for storage.
• Sorting, weighing, labeling and other inventory related tasks
• Basic kitchen prep tasks
• Sorting and organizing product based on each programs needs and setting items up for transfer and pick up
Schedule and Location
• Tuesdays, 4:30pm-6:00pm at 700 Virginia St, Seattle WA 98101
Qualifications and Requirements
• Be able to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly
• Be able to stand and walk for up to 2 hours
• Adhere to FareStart's volunteer expectations
• Flexibility: tasks and amount of work may change week to week
• Must be 18yrs +

Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient process by assisting with food packing, distributing groceries, directing traffic, and helping families receive much-needed supplies.This is a fast-paced, high-energy event where teamwork makes a huge impact! Volunteers should be prepared to stand for long periods, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress for the weather. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to serve and make a difference.

9:15-1:15 or 12pm-4pm Monday-Friday:
-Coat Check: Assist patrons with our coat check procedures. Patrons put items in a sealed container during their visit and sometimes need to be gently reminded about our rules. One coat check volunteer takes down the patrons information while two other coat-check volunteers place the bins in a secure location and then wipe the bins out after use.
-Washroom Volunteers: Sign the patrons in and out of our washrooms, use a sanitizing wipe on high-touch surfaces like door knobs and taps after each use (not a detailed clean).
9:15-1:15PM Monday-Friday (no afternoon shift):
-Food and Clothing Bank: Organize and fulfill pantry orders for our patrons
-Food Service Volunteers: hand out pre-plated lunch, serve coffee, water and juice
Monday-Saturday 8am-Noon:
-Kitchen Volunteers: Cook, chop, plate lunch, and tidy the kitchen
As Needed:
-Pick Ups and Drops Offs: Occasionally, we need volunteers to pick up items, or drop them off around Oshawa and the surrounding area, such as bags of out-going or incoming donations

Volunteer at Milwaukee's hottest chili event and raise funds for Frontier Radio WMSE 91.7FM. 40-60 local restaurants will serve chili, WMSE DJs spin Rockabilly records, and Hunger Task Force will collect non-perishable food donations for families in the Milwaukee area. Slice Out Hunger, the nation’s foremost pizza nonprofit, needs your help with their primary ongoing #Pizza4Good initiative, Pie it Forward.What?
Pie it Forward is an ongoing project that is designed to get pizza to individuals experiencing food insecurity by setting up deliveries to soup kitchens, food banks, free meal programs, senior centers, clinics, and hunger action centers. As a virtual volunteer, you would be assigned to requests from hunger relief organizations and contact them by phone & email so you can work with them on the logistics of for a free pizza delivery.
When?
This is an ongoing year-round project and we'd love your help during any timeframes that you're available. If you have a few hours of weekday daytime availability on a weekly basis (preferably spread out in 20ish minute increments), you're perfect for this project!
For new volunteers, we offer onboarding sessions to get you up to speed on making calls and moving requests through our project management system. We'll work with you to schedule an onboarding session that works for you.
Who can volunteer?
They welcome all volunteers 18 years or older. This is a virtual project so all you need is access to a phone and computer!
Where?
Since this is a virtual project, it can be done from your home, your favorite coffee shop, the park at the end of your block, or anywhere! So long as you have access to a phone, computer, and WIFI, you’re all set!

On Saturday, April 12, Birch Community Services will hold benefit auction from 5:00-9:00 pm.Funds raised will directly support our mission of building a financially stable community by providing education, food, and nurturing accountability.
Volunteers will help in all areas of the event from serving food, bartending, and helping provide hospitality to our approximately 140 guests.
We'll also be working earlier in the day on setting up the space, and transforming the German American Society Ballroom into a whimsical garden party.

As a Hunger Action Center volunteer, you may assist with a myriad of tasks including sorting and packing recently donated food, repackaging produce or grains for families, or boxing non-perishable items for seniors across Atlanta.
There are a number of projects that happen in our Hunger Action Center that all guarantee an amazing day of volunteering! We will train you on your day of service for the project of the day.
