Good Shepherd Food-Bank is Maine’s largest hunger relief organization and is responsible for the procurement and distribution of millions of pounds of food annually. To accomplish this task Good Shepherd Food-Bank partners with many other organizations including the USDA to reach those at risk of hunger in our state.

Our volunteers help us to inspect, sort and pack foods to be distributed to our over 400 partner agency food pantries, soup kitchens and community programs throughout the state. The food may be sourced from retail partners, donations, government programs or our Mainers Feeding Mainers farm partners. We help facilitate the federal Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) which distributes food to over 9,000 food insecure seniors throughout the state of Maine, we also pack backpack bags to be distributed to food insecure children throughout the state and inspect and sort donated food to be distributed throughout the state.

An appointment must be made in advance of your first day, for an orientation and training. All volunteers must wear closed toe shoes.

Please email btatro@gsfb.org for more information or to schedule your volunteer experience.

We do not accept walk-ins.

We have volunteer opportunities available in Auburn and Hampden, ME

Looking to combat hunger in Harford County? The EPICENTER at Edgewood is seeking volunteers for our October Health Fair & Food Giveaway on Friday, October 12th.

Each month, The EPICENTER hosts a Health Fair & Food Giveaway, through which we partner with Tabitha's House and give away fresh food to Harford County citizens in need. We also invite a broad spectrum of community organizations to share health, financial, employment, and other types of resources with guests.

Volunteers may help with any of the following tasks while serving: setting up before the Food Giveaway, sorting food, bagging food, giving food bags to guests, or cleaning up after the event. Additionally, if you speak Spanish, we could always use help translating for Spanish-speaking guests (though Spanish skills are by no means required).

If you are in need of food, we welcome you to obtain food while you work. We also encourage you to share this event on social media, in your offices, or with anyone you know who may benefit.
