Looking to combat hunger in Harford County? The EPICENTER at Edgewood is seeking volunteers for our August Food Giveaway. Each month, The EPICENTER hosts a Food Giveaway, through which we partner with Maryland Food Bank and Tabitha's House to give away more than 7,000 pounds of food to Harford County citizens in need. The EPICENTER’s August Food Giveaway will take place on SATURDAY, August 11 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. IMPORTANT: please note that this month's day and time is different from when we normally hold our Food Giveaways due to our summer camp.
We will need volunteers most from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Volunteers may help with any of the following tasks: setting up before the Food Giveaway, sorting food, bagging food, giving food bags to guests, or cleaning up after the event. Additionally, if you speak Spanish, we could always use help translating for Spanish-speaking guests (though Spanish skills are not required).
Please contact Lauren Savard at laurens@epicenteratedgewood.com with any questions. The EPICENTER is located on Route 40 in the shopping center behind the Walgreens and Checkers and near the Wendy's.
If you are in need of food, we welcome you to obtain food while you work. We also encourage you to share this event on social media, in your offices, or with anyone you know who may benefit.

At our new event volunteers will help package 15,000 meals for local food banks, churches, and other food service programs to distribute throughout our community.150 volunteers are needed for the UNITED To End Hunger food packaging event which runs from 3:00-4:30pm on Thursday, September 13th at Sauk Valley Community College.
United Way already supports child hunger relief with their summer lunch program, Serving Up Summer. This new initiative is part of their effort to provide food for families whose kids depend on meals provided by schools during the school year. The food packaging event helps offset local child hunger. The food insecurity rate in Lee County is 10.7%.
Each package serves four people. Using volunteers, United Way keeps costs to 25 cents a serving, or $3,750 for the entire truck load. Sponsorship and donations are essential.
Anyone can volunteer to package meals or help with set up or clean up after the event. Work as an individual or come as a team and run our own packaging line. We welcome everyone to participate- families, friends, students, civic groups, anyone and everyone. The more, the merrier.
Packing food might not sound like fun, but we promise a good time while doing something worthwhile.
