At 4MyCiTy, Our focus is on the Importance of Environmental Sustainability. Primarily the Sustainable Management of Food in relation to reducing organic waste. Our program limits the harmful effects caused by organic waste on our environment while improving food security for families within our communities.When you volunteer with us you will learn about how we rescue food on a daily basis and get it into the hands of families that need it. Additional educational opportunities will revolve round our environmental sustainability plan to divert food waste from our landfills and incinerators to our composting sites. We are looking for all types of talent to volunteer, come on in ad learn about us and help us to continue our amazing work.

Opportunity Details
We are looking for volunteers to perform various tasks listed below. Volunteers must have a valid Drivers License and own transportation with enough room to transport the food/bakery item donations. The volunteering opportunity requires driving, standing for long hours, picking and handling heavy donation boxes. The volunteer must follow current Covid-19 CDC and local building site guidelines.The major volunteer duties for each task is listed below;
Task #1. Drive, wait and pick up food bakery item donations at Ephrata, PA. The current assigned pick-up Is on Thursday's at 8:45PM. Other pick-up days maybe assigned. Aside from commute, time spent at bakery for waiting, packing and loading will be 30 to 45 minutes.
Task #2. Deliver the food bakery items collected for packaging and distribution at downtown Lancaster, PA on Friday's afternoon at 1PM. Aside from commute and finding parking in downtown, the unloading and delivery will take about 30 to 45 minutes.
Task #3. Participate in individual bakery items packaging and distribution to in need population. This activity will require up to an hour and half.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY
Meals on Wheels (MOW) Program: WoodGreen’s Senior’s Care and Wellness team is dedicated to supporting seniors so they can thrive at home with dignity and independence. Aging is a journey that requires thoughtful and careful planning. Along with friendly visits, home support and our Active Living Centre supports we also provide meal support. Increased food insecurity for independently living seniors and adults with disabilities is a very crucial need in our society. The volunteering program also provides for security and wellness checks!
WoodGreen’s Meals on Wheels program provides a hot or frozen meal delivered to the doorstep of our clients who are seniors or adults with disabilities.
MOW Driver Volunteer Role: The MOW Driver will support with delivering the meals. In collaboration with the Meals on Wheels Runner, the Driver will transport meals from Bridgepoint Active Health to the designated homes on the assigned route. The Driver is expected to remain in the vehicle while Runner will deliver the meals, this avoids parking issues.
MOW Runner Volunteer Role: The MOW Runner will support with delivering the meals. In collaboration with the Meals on Wheels Driver who will transport the meals from Bridgepoint Active Health to the designated homes on the assigned route. The Runner will accompany the driver and deliver the meals to the seniors and or adults with disabilities. The runner is expected to load the meals into the vehicle and deliver the meals along with any special instructions on diet or others, the driver will wait in the vehicle to avoid parking issues. Volunteers will deliver meals packed in plastic bags and leave it at the front door following social distancing protocols. If the client is bedridden, volunteers need to leave the meal on a dining table, or counter.
We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum 3-month period. The program runs Monday to Friday from 10:30am to 12:30pm and we expect volunteers to commit to at least one shift per week.
Location: In Person at Bridgepoint Hospital or Centre 55 (Main Street/Swanwick Ave). We match the volunteers based on proximity and availability of routes etc.
MOW Volunteer Role Requirements:
• Must have access to vehicle and a valid G2 or G license (Required for MOW Driver Role only)
• Must have effective communication skills, both speaking and listening skills are crucial.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Must work with people in a professional, empathetic manner.
• Must be sensitive to the needs and challenges faced by seniors and adults with disabilities.
• Must be patient and compassionate with a desire to help clients living in isolation and or with disabilities.
• Must adhere to privacy policies and maintain confidentiality of information.

Community Made cooking is to ease food access needs for participants and local food banks. Volunteers and participants cook 200 food portions together for the wider community that also includes the participants to take home for the week. The rest of the meals will be delivered to local community food banks, families needing more food access and support, and members who are not physically mobile.The format is not like a teaching class where the head chef teaches a class. You will still learn, 'on the fly' when the chef assigns a responsibility. The whole kitchen team will be supportive to learn and develop together, while not in a teaching class mode. You will learn new skills to cook for more people.
Depending on timings , there will be a brief break for lunch and rest together, at the discretion of the head chef.

Can you spare 2 hours once a week?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, this is the role for YOU! Make a difference in the life of senior who may no longer have access to a kitchen or the ability to cook for themselves.
Time Commitment: All meals are delivered weekday mornings between 9:00 am and noon, with most routes being finished within 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
Can't make a long term volunteer commitment? No problem! Short term opportunities are available.
During COVID-19, masks and gloves are provided and safety measures have been put in place. In compliance with Circle of Care’s Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, volunteers for this position are required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 by submitting a copy of the receipt of their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine once accepted for the volunteer role.
