The Meals on Wheels Thrift Store is our year round fundraiser to help provide meals to the homebound. 100% of our income goes to the mission. We are not government funded and the store provides 1/3 of our income. Opportunities in the thrift store are bagging, hanging & tagging clothes, stocking shelves with donations and straightening our store so customers can find and buy merchandise. All volunteers are directed by Meals on Wheels staff. We have 2 shifts: Morning Shift 9am to 12pm and Afternoon shift 12pm to 3pm. We like to be organized and clean so our volunteers have an enjoyable experience while helping the homebound.Available Shifts

Smiles are Rewarding! When you deliver a meal to a homebound person you can see just how it helps them survive and remain independent in their own comfortable home. Volunteer Meal Delivery Drivers arrive at the Meals on Wheels meal pickup location between 9:30 to 11am depending on the location. We have 6 pickup locations depending on your area. You will pickup a hot cooler and a cold cooler with items for their daily meal which include a meat, starch, 2 vegetables, bread, drink, dessert and soup or salad depending on the day. You will deliver the meals in your own vehicle. This usually takes from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours to 8 to 15 people depending on the route. If you are limited on your time please indicate to us and we can provide a shorter route. You can just leave the meal with the recipient at the door or visit with them briefly as you have time. After delivering meals you will return the coolers to the pickup location. If you have questions at any time or comments about a recipient our office is available to help you by calling 863-299-1616. We appreciate our caring volunteers!

Would you, your family or social group like to support homeless women and children by providing a meal at one of our shelters in Libertyville? Please help by signing up to donate breakfast, lunch, or dinner to our Hope House or Renewal House locations. Each meal should be expected to feed 10 individuals. Meals may be home-made, store-bought, or restaurant-delivery.
To sign up, please visit us at:
https://lakecountyhaven.org/get-involved/volunteer/meal-donations/
If you have any questions at all, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator at 847-680-1870 or Volunteer@LakeCountyHaven.org
Frequently Asked Questions:
How many people should the meal serve?
Each shelter houses 10 women and children, so please plan on preparing food for at least ten people.
What type of meal should I prepare?
Our residents are not picky and love any variety of meals! You can prepare an entree only, or you can provide an entree with salad and a side. Please feel welcome to contact us at 847-680-1870 or volunteer@lakecountyhaven.org with additional questions. We can make recommendations based on your interests.
Do any of the residents have food allergies?
Occasionally, we may have residents with food allergies. If that is the case, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you prior to your meal preparation week.
Will we be able to serve the meal to the residents?
Unfortunately, because of confidentiality purposes, all of our meal donations are "drop off only". If you are interested in seeing the shelter and learning more about the Haven, we would be happy to take you through the shelter for a tour. Please arrange tours by calling 847-680-1901.
