Since 1979, The Boston House: Hope and Healing for Children with Cancer has served as a no-cost home away from home for children with cancer who are receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital. The House Dinner Program enables volunteer groups to come in to The Boston House and prepare meals for the families staying with us. Volunteers plan their meal, purchase groceries and utilize The House's kitchen to prepare and serve meals to the children and families we serve. We typically can host up to 6 volunteers for indoor cooking or 8-10 if we're barbecuing in our outdoor kitchen.
These dinners have been so appreciated by our families, who usually spend most of their day with their children at our partner hospitals. Coming back here to a warm, home-cooked meal can not only provide nutrition, but also a sense of normalcy, of community, and a reassurance that they are not alone in their battle against childhood cancer.
