🚨 Volunteer Opportunity: Help Transform the Property of a Local Army Veteran 🚨

We’ve been made aware of a meaningful opportunity to assist a disabled Army veteran currently recovering in a rehab facility following recent surgery. With no immediate family around, a kind neighbor stepped up to request help on his behalf.

🏡 The Situation:

The front yard is heavily overgrown, with grass reaching 2–3 feet tall

There are numerous feral cats on the property, creating sanitation concerns

The work will be extensive and hands-on — perfect for those who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves

This project isn’t easy — but that’s exactly why it matters. When no one else can step in, that’s when we do. We’re seeking a dedicated group of helpers who are willing to tackle a challenging but deeply rewarding cleanup to bring this veteran’s home back to a livable condition.

🔍 Important Notes:

The request came from a neighbor, so we are working on establishing direct communication with the veteran himself before beginning any work — this is essential for transparency and respect.

Due to the nature of the property, safety precautions will be necessary, and this may not be suitable for all volunteers.

If you’re in or near the West Valley City, Utah area and can assist with mowing, trimming, cleanup, or coordination, we want to hear from you. Whether you’re experienced with yard work or simply want to lend a hand in any way you can, every effort helps.

En nuestra ONG, trabajamos en dos centros situados en Katmandú y Hetauda, donde apoyamos a más de 120 niños y niñas con discapacidad, brindándoles educación, atención especializada, fisioterapia y mucho cariño. Cada mes, disponemos de 6 plazas para voluntarios (3 en cada centro), y estamos buscando personas como tú, dispuestas a entregar su tiempo, su corazón y sus habilidades para contribuir a la formación del personal de los centros.

Nuestros centros cuentan con todas las instalaciones necesarias para crear un entorno de desarrollo integral: una escuela para la educación adaptada, un patio para las actividades al aire libre, un taller ocupacional para fomentar habilidades, una sala de fisioterapia y rehabilitación para el tratamiento especializado, y una residencia escolar donde también se alojan nuestros voluntarios. Tendrás la oportunidad de convivir y compartir cada momento con los niños, formando parte de su día a día.

Para cubrir los costos básicos, este voluntariado tiene un coste de 80 euros a la semana, que incluye alojamiento, comidas y agua embotellada. Sabemos que es una pequeña inversión, pero con ella garantizamos que puedas centrarte al 100% en tu labor y aproveches al máximo esta experiencia.

Estos niños merecen una oportunidad para aprender, crecer y sentirse acompañados, y tú puedes ser parte fundamental de este camino. Like every team in the Cal Ripken Summer Baseball League, the Alexandria Aces Collegiate Summer Baseball Team is always in need of Host Families. These players are coming from Universities throughout the U.S. and need a home while they play for us. Without the generous support of all our host families, there is no team. Players stay with families in the Alexandria/Arlington area from early June to early August. Please know that players are responsible for their meals and often eat dinner as a team.

What do Host Families provide?

Aces players often work jobs (such as the Aces Youth Camps) during the day and play games at night. Therefore, their needs are relatively simple: private room, bathroom and laundry room access, a place to park a car, and a family to cheer them on.

The Community Social Planning Council (CSPC) and Volunteer Victoria are recruiting volunteers for the biennial Point in Time (PiT) Homeless Count in Greater Victoria. This important community-wide effort helps gather data to improve local services and support programs for people experiencing homelessness. While the majority of volunteers will be conducting surveys with people experiencing homelessness, volunteers will also be needed for various administrative and coordination tasks, event day set-up and take-down, magnet events in various locations on other dates, and to lead teams of volunteer surveyors.

Greater Victoria participated in nationwide PiT Counts in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023. Point-in-Time counts add essential information to our understanding of how people experience homelessness in our region.

Volunteers sign up for one 3-hour shift, attend a two-hour training session in advance of the event, and must be 19 years of age or older to participate.
